The 18-8 stainless self-locking serrated hex flange nut has a plain finish and meets American Society for Mechanical Engineers ASME B18.2.2 specifications. The nut has a flanged base on one end that eliminates the need for a washer when fastening components. It has a self-locking serrated flange that digs into the material being fastened to help prevent loosening. The body has a hex shape with six flat sides that a wrench can grip to turn from the side, enabling use when there is no space above the nut. The 18-8 stainless steel material provides strength and offers good corrosion resistance in many environments. The material may be slightly magnetic. Width is measured as width across flats. Nuts are internally threaded fasteners that are used with bolts and threaded rods and studs to connect components. Several different nut styles fit a variety of application and installation requirements. Some styles, such as hex nuts, acorn nuts, flange hex nuts, and coupling nuts, must be tightened with a tool. Others, such as eye nuts, thumb nuts, and wing nuts, can be tightened by hand. Some nuts have a self-locking mechanism, such as a nylon patch or distorted threads, that makes them suitable for applications with a high amount of vibration.

They’re nuts
The nuts are great. Amazon, however, keeps sending me packs of 10 when I ordered 25. They let me keep the first pack of ten. They wanted the second 10 pack back. Curious to see if the third time is a charm. Third time was a charm, they finally sent me a pack of 25. I’m a happy camper.

Good value
What can you say about nuts? All have good threads and fit the studs on our Polaris Sportsman 500. Better than buying from the dealer

Repurposed
Maybe I shouldn't write a review, as I did not use these as nuts. So, I can't say anything useful about the threads and such. However, I did use these as mixing weights in my (ceramics) slip container, and they work perfectly. The flanges cut through the lumps of clay as I shake the container. I can use 3 in 12 ounces of water/clay, and within a minute of shaking, have a really nice container of smoothly mixed slip. Since they're nice and heavy, they go to the bottom, out of the way. The finish on the nuts looks good, and has lasted very well - no rust or flaking.

Bolt threads eat into the nuts and seize them
Had the unfortunate joy of trying to remove these nuts. 1 in 5 nuts ended up cross threading when tightening using just a 1/4" hand ratchet. Then they wouldn't come off until I heated them with a torch and snapped them off with the bolts. Something was not right with the nuts I received. Thread pitch and everything was correct. The temper or something must be off since the bolt thread just bit right into the nuts when tightening.

Non-rusting With Built In Washer and Locking Serrations--HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
These nuts have a flanged base so you don't need a flat washer, plus they have serrations on the underside that help keep them from loosening. These are especially helpful when using carriage bolts where a nylock type lock nut may cause the bolt to spin, and would essentially be impossible to remove from an aged board.
