A must have for extreme temperatures and low humidity.
There are no cooling packs in this vest. You get it wet. I bought a two gallon bucket and lid at home depot. You wet the vest in the water. It will take a couple dips and the packs built in will swell pretty big. Do not leave it to soak. The packs will explode. The vest will seem heavy but once you it on you won't notice. I'm a 5'4" 140 lbs female. This vest was recommended to me for my husband by my friend's dad who works outside in Death Valley. The name says it all... its typically hot and dry. We live in the Mojave Desert in CA. Both locations are known for black flag heat. Shortly after my husband bought his and wore it awhile many people at his job bought them. You soak it, it's dripping wet when you pull it out, my husband wears a heavy cotton shirt, then the vest, and a Columbia button up shirt (super light). It keeps you cool until it's almost dry. I believe the key is we have low humidity despite soaring temps. I 100% stand behind this vest as the best option for hot dry conditions. Forget the ice pack version. You can carry the vest and bucket around or carry the vest with ice packs and a freezer around. Your choice... one day the large was do low $$ that I got one.
