The Baker 312FC surface thermometer is specifically designed to be used on horizontal or ferrous surfaces. It features two alnico magnets that act as the thermometer’s base and hold it in place and the Bimetallic sensor is a specially processed alloy that is preconditioned and pretested for permanent calibration and maximum stability. The sensor is located in a draft shield and is in virtual thermal contact with the surface to be measured which means a relatively quick response time and it reaches sensing equilibrium (stability) within three minutes. It is designed for applications such as: hot plates; griddles; die-cast dies; foundry core boxes; annealing ovens; weld preheats; motors; generators; engines; bearings; boilers, tanks, and drums. Please note you may receive a "REED" branded product which will be the exact same product as shown in this listing.

I have used units similar to this in industry for years. It works up to my expectations. It is designed to be placed on a metal surface where the magnets can attach. It requires about 20 seconds for the temperature sensing spring to warm up and begin turning the dial.

Poor Quality
This was one of the more expensive magnetic surface thermometers. When I received it, the hinge on the case was broken, and the cover on the back of the thermometer had broken off as well. I was very disappointed in this product for the price that was paid. I would not recommend ordering this product.
