Nice for the pricepoint, but prefer Le Toy Van house

I bought this Rose Cottage dollhouse for my daughter for her upcoming third birthday and just assembled it last night. For my older daughter's third birthday (she is now 4.5) I bought her this Le Toy Van dollhouse (Mayberry Manor) http://www.amazon.com/Le-Toy-Van-H118-Mayberry/dp/B000VD9XBS/ref=pd_sbs_t_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=0GYX09WDMXKPNPE6A7CD I am in Canada, so Amazon would not ship the le toy van house to me, so I sourced it from a Canadian company for $199. 6 furniture sets cost another $300--so $500 for the complete set. When my second daughter started asking for her own dolly house for her room-I considered another Le Toy Van house since I have been so incredibly impressed with the quality of it, but as I was searching Amazon I came across these Bigjig toys dollhouses-which weren't available for my first daughter. I considered for a long time questioning the quality given the lower price until I watched a video on youtube that showed it and it appeared quite sturdy. And I must say-it is pretty much as sturdy as the Le Toy Van house, but now that I have it I am a little disappointed I didn't pay the money for another Le Toy Van. The difference is in the details. The windows and doors just kinda swing freely on this house compared to the magnetic closing on the le toy van. The furniture that comes with the Rose Cottage IS sturdy and functional, but doesn't have NEARLY the detail and charm as the le toy van Rosebud line. There were SOO many little pieces and extras that come along with the le toy van furniture--food and cups and picture frames and pillows and blankets that add to the play value. The sliding door on the rose cottage is neat-except we have the houses against the wall in each of their bedrooms, so it is a little pointless for us. Also-I will have to purchase a children's bedroom set for the bigjig toys house as there is no furniture for the third floor included. For the little people included-I will keep those for play in their general toys downstairs and I have purchased another set of Fisher Price Loving Family people for this rose cottage--and ONE set of grandparents for both girls to share ;) They fit perfectly with all the accessories and I like having the cuter detailed people versus the blah wooden people, but didn't want the junky plastic dollhouse. We do have one Loving Family minivan-which the girls love despite the doors falling off (and not staying on ever) in the first few minutes of playing. Instead for this house I have also purchased the le toy van sophies CAR (not coupe) which has seating for 4--and I think they will love it even more. (Also prepurchased the le toy van London double decker bus for my son's birthday this summer so he can join in a little!) Okay-a little rambly :) But overall--this house is perfectly adequate and is an excellent toy for the price range. ****BUT**** if the price is close (especially if you can find the le toy van on sale on amazon, etc) I would FOR SURE choose the le toy van dollhouses over these! Just hoping my daughter is still happy with this house and doesn't notice the quality differences from her sister's house.

Great dollhouse set!

I love this dollhouse and can’t wait to give it to my 2 year old for her birthday! I did a ton of research and agonized over picking a Plan, Le Toy van, Hape and Kidkraft house. I selected bigjig for the following reasons (and am glad I did): well-constructed, not too much pink, not anything on walls (which I think limits imagination), is wood, paid attention to details- very cute, was an actual house with working doors and windows, had doorways and stairs, was 3 levels, included high quality furniture (which can get expensive fast), was not too big and not too small. One thing I could not find in all my research was the scale of all the brands as I wanted to order sets for the 3rd floor. I found that Le Toy van (plum bunkbed room set), Plan laundry room accessories, Hape car all match this set pretty well and work with the dolls. You can see them in the top floor of my picture and in the back of the bathroom. They are the same scale. The dolls in my bigjig set are about 5 inches tall. I wish the kid dolls were shorter than the parents and there was a baby. It was pretty easy to put together and was like a puzzle where you snap pieces together. It was a little hard getting the final piece screwed in the bottom so have help at that stage to hold house together while you put on the house on it’s back. I am confident I made the right decision and the review that mentioned the cost of furniture wasn’t kidding, building this cost into the price actually will save you money.

Disappointed

I really want to love this doll house. And to be fair it might just be my experience and may not happen for anyone else. I got this for Christmas for my 3 year old and she does love it as does my 5 year old. The furniture is really sturdy, the people cute, the colors bright and pretty. I got a car and kids bedroom set from a different company and they go really well with it. The problem is the construction of the house. The front panel that has the front door won't stay on because a little piece broke off-during shipment I assume since it was like this out of the box-which is supposed to be inserted into a hole to keep the panel on and allow it to swing open and closed. There was also a piece on the side at the bottom that was supposed to be screwed in but the holes were to big or something because the screws just fall out and any bigger screws that we have here are too long. Then there is a piece that goes on the inside that I think is called a support beam in the directions. It is supposed to slide into the side partition and be screwed into place to add extra support. The slit wasn't made big enough so it couldn't slide into place. I couldn't think of any way to fix that but thankfully the house doesn't seem to really need it. Hopefully that continues to prove true. Honestly, I would return it except that I already got rid of the box and I had to get it shipped through shipitapo.com and am unsure how returning an item through them works. If I could break up my rating I would give 5 stars for cuteness and fun but only 1 or 2 stars for durability and construction. :-(

Beautiful doll house perfect for pretend play

Best surprise for her birthday. This doll house is absolutely beautiful. The windows, sliding door, detachable stairs, painted roof and all the furniture are perfect for my toddler. The instructions for putting it together are terrible. It's literally just a few pictures and there are obviously missing steps. Luckily my husband was able to figure it out but it was definitely trying his patience. There's only a few screws holding it together so you have got to pick it up from the base when moving it. But overall, best doll house and it was the perfect gift for my 3yr old. Highly recommended

Grandchildren loved it

Rose Cottage is easy to put together and good quality. The screws used to put the main upright in are too short, they just kept turning, but no problem with slightly longer screws. Unfortunately my son had to take it apart to get it home but it went together just as easily the second time around. The most important thing is that my three granddaughters (1yr, 18 months and four years} thoroughly enjoyed playing with it. Overall excellent value with all the figures that are supplied with it. Delivery was excellent and it was packaged really well.

Fantastic buy

My grand daughter absolutely loves this dolls house. She plays with it every day and as she's only 3 sometimes it gets quite a hammering. It is beautifully crafted. Highly recommend

Excellent value for money.

I have bought this as a Christmas present as I was very impressed with the quality of the same house bought by my daughter in law for my Granddaughter's birthday. It is lovely, very robust, well made and there are lots of figures and pieces of furniture so no extra outlay initially for accessories.

I'm so pleased with this, I bought it for my grand daughters 3rd birthday. After looking around for a while, this dolls house 'jumped out at me' .. I love it, I know it will last her years and years, many, many hours of enjoyment, And an added bonus you can add to it.. That's good to know for all the birthdays and Christmases to come. It's perfect !!
