Extremely boxy

I'm a size 6/8 in womens clothing & ordered an XS in this poncho - and it is still huge, square, & boxy. I wanted something to fit over thick winter layers (which this would be perfect for) but it is so big & square, I can't get my brain around it. I loved the concept of this - but it just looks like a big black garbage bag on. I might try to pull the sides in somehow to see if that would look better, but this was expensive, so it's hard to justify modifying it.
