Capezio's Jr. Footlight shoe is perfect for any performance, whether it's character or theatrical, or you can even attach taps on its stitched leather sole. The shoe features a traditional buckle closure for custom fitting, and a thick, small heel that's just the right height for your growing performer. Salvatore Capezio was born in 1871 in Muro Lucano, Italy. Uninterested in following in his father's footsteps as a construction engineer, he became an artist of his own right, a cobbler. In 1887, at the age of 17, he opened his shop on Broadway and 39th Street, diagonally across from the old Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Soon, the shop became a meeting place for dancers who would stop by to discuss their needs and to get a pair of his shoes. As Capezio's popularity grew, dancers from around the world made it a point to visit him and purchase his shoes. The innovation of the products that Salvatore Capezio created and the camaraderie he shared with the dancers molded the direction that his company would follow. In this image, the Capezio brand was established to promote and recognize ongoing achievements and participation in dance. Capezio products remain in the forefront in quality and in technological advances with innovations like the split-sole, the stretch-insert, the Dansneaker and the Tapsneaker. Capezio believes that their success is dependent upon the individual commitment of each customer to continually set new standards of creativity and performance, while preserving a reputation for dependability and distinction. Capezio pledges their support and dedication to the advancement of dance, theater and recreation in communities worldwide.

These shoes run small
Just a heads up for parents, my daughter uses a 2 youth in regular street shoes, I had to buy a 3.5 youth for my daughter. Her feet are a bit wide, we tried the 3 youth and it was very tight and it could've been due to that. The shoes are a bit narrow compared to other brands, which is good for kids with narrow feet. For these types of shoes (character shoes) the youth sizes don't go beyond size 3 or 3.5, but be aware that going to a 4 in women's size will be different because women's sizes run differently than youth's. If they had a size 4 Youth and size 4 Women's, the size 4 Youth style shoe would be bigger. For this reason, when purchasing for a child in a woman's size, I had to go to a 4.5 women's for my daughter (vs a 3.5 in youth). Another thing to keep in mind is that each brand runs differently, we tried a women's 4 in a different brand and it was big for her. My advise to you is that if you buy one size in a particular brand, and it doesn't fit, order up or down from the same brand to find consistency. Otherwise it will be very hard to find a match for your child.

Size up 2-3 sizes
The character shoes are great if you can figure out what size to order. It took us 3 tries to get it right. My daughter wears a 2-2.5 in big kid sizes and we ordered a 2.5 initially thinking you order your shoe size. Wrong. It was WAY too small. I read a few more reviews and the second time we went 2 sizes up and ordered a 4. It was still too small. We barely squeezed her foot into the shoe and it was painful for her to walk in because it was too tight. We returned that pair and got a 5. The 5 fits a bit too large so a 4.5 probably would have been perfect but since her feet are still growing we are keeping the 5. My advice is to go 2.5-3 sizes larger than they wear and hope for the best!

Good Shoes
I read a review saying that if you wear a kids size 13.5 to get a size 2. I went with this and the 2 fit pretty well! It's a little tight in the toes, but I think with some wear, it will be fine. Great, cute shoes! I've worn them for one show so far and they seem to be well-made!

Sizing off, not worth price
Capezio makes great dance shoes. All my daughter's tap shoes have been Capezio. However, this one for a dance recital was NOT a hit. First, she wears a 12.5 US - she would have needed a 1 or 1.5. It measured like her old 10s. No kidding. The shoe was very narrow and tight across the vamp as well. However, the reason I returned rather than exchanged was that one of the nails on one of the heels was raised rather than flush with the shoe. It was not what I'm used to from Capezio. Otherwise, beautiful shoe - leather. Edit: I wanted to add 2 things: 1) I bought a full size bigger than she normally wears based on another reviewer - so my review is based on based on buying a full size bigger (still too small), and 2) I was charged for the return despite problems with quality and sizing I noted on the return. Therefore, based on the sizing issue and the cost of returns, I would NOT recommend purchasing this shoe from Amazon.

Small but may be expected?
I am told that the character shoes run differently so it was my mistake but I wanted to let others know who might not be clued in like I was. My kid is about a size 1.5-2 in reg shoes. Size 2 in these ones that I bought were more like size 11 or so. I think I will get a 5 next time

Good shoe. Sizes are off.
This is the third pair of these I have bought for my daughter. She is very petite so the shoes are perfect for her. They’re quite durable and the only reason I’ve bought new ones is because she outgrew them. The sizes are way off though. She wears a size 13 (US little kids) and the shoes I bought her were a size 2 (US kids).

Too small
My daughter wears a size 13 so I ordered a size 1.5 thinking that would be safe. Nope. Too small. Very cute shoe though.
