Salvatore Capezio was born in 1871 in Muro Lucano, Italy. Uninterested in following in his father's footsteps as a construction engineer, he became an artist of his own right, a cobbler. In 1887, at the age of 17, he opened his shop on Broadway and 39th Street, diagonally across from the old Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Soon, the shop became a meeting place for dancers who would stop by to discuss their needs and to get a pair of his shoes. As Capezio's popularity grew, dancers from around the world made it a point to visit him and purchase his shoes. The innovation of the products that Salvatore Capezio created and the camaraderie he shared with the dancers molded the direction that his company would follow. In this image, the Capezio brand was established to promote and recognize ongoing achievements and participation in dance. Capezio products remain in the forefront in quality and in technological advances with innovations like the split-sole, the stretch-insert, the Dansneaker and the Tapsneaker. Capezio believes that their success is dependent upon the individual commitment of each customer to continually set new standards of creativity and performance, while preserving a reputation for dependability and distinction. Capezio pledges their support and dedication to the advancement of dance, theater and recreation in communities worldwide. See more

Nice shoes but prefer the Bloch
I'm a beginner at tap and I initially bought the Bloch Women's Tap-Flex Tap Shoe in my street size (5.5). It was a little tight, so I ordered the Capezio Women's Flex Master Tap shoe in a size 6. Though the shoes fit well, I found that I preferred the construction of the Bloch and returned the Capezio. Both are nice shoes and sound great. Here's a comparison: Capezio Flex master: - Shape is different. It looks and feels somewhat like a ballet shoe mounted on heels - Very soft and flexible right out of the box. In fact, too soft and flexible for me because I could feel the edge of the heel transfer through to the insole. Probably something to get used to with time, but I found the feeling distracting. - The heel is rather long and extends forward almost to the arch. This may not be a problem in larger size shoes. The Bloch heel stayed well back from the arch. - The blue insole is comfortable at the heel but stops just beyond the arch. The ball and toe area appear unfinished inside and I kept feeling the transition through my socks. Bloch Tap-Flex: - Shaped more like an Oxford, wider at the ball and tapering toward the toes - Soft leather upper. The flex sole is stiffer out of the box than the Capezio. A couple of weeks and the flexibility has improved while still providing support. - There is no stitching around the support at the back of the shoe in the Achilles tendon area. The edge of the support caused some friction but nothing a pair of socks will not mask. Hope that helps!

Not the best
These are pretty uncomfortable and produce very little sound. At least they were cheap.

The Shoe Fits!
For those with large feet… I am a woman who wears a size 11 sandal, 11.5 closed toe shoe, and size 12 running shoe; my feet are normal width. Following Capezio’s size guide, I ordered a size 12 and it fit perfectly. There’s room for my toes! I’ve always worn full sole tap shoes, but I didn’t notice a difference in this split sole shoe. Now I can get back to tapping without all of the pain from my old outgrown shoes! I can’t comment on longevity, but my 20 year old Capezio tap shoes have held up. I would still be using them if it wasn’t for my feet growing after having kids.

WAY TO SMALL
They are beautifully made, but my daughter always wears a 3 M and these 4 W were way too small. I just ordered a 5 W to see if they fit.

Don't size up too much.
Couldn't wait to get these! It's been 30 years since I've had tap shoes on my feet! However, I ordered too big. I wear 9-9.5 in street shoes so I ordered a 10, knowing that they run narrow. I would've been able to handle the width, but they were just too long. If you have borderline wide feet, do yourself a favor and just get the wide width but don't size up too much. Can't wait to get the right size in the mail!

Should have gone up 1/2 size
I wore these shoes for a tap class within an hour of receiving them. They were a little snug with light socks, but I wore them anyway. They were comfortable for the 1 1/2 hour class. The second time I wore them, the ball of my left foot and left heel became fatigued and ached. There's no padding in the foot bed with very little padding in the heel, They are too small to add any inserts for extra padding. I got the recommended size (7), but now wish I had gone up a 1/2 size. I wore them without socks today and they were okay, but not great. I also bought the Bloch Flex shoes in size 7 1/2 and they were a little roomier, so I will keep them and use inserts for foot fatigue. I do think the Capezio's are a better shoe than the Bloch's.

Rubber Sole Needed Sticking
These are great split sole tap shoes - I have bought this type for my daughter before and she loves them. This pair came very quickly, which was great as she had her tap exam coming up. Unfortunately, the rubber sole started to come away from the shoe after just a couple of wears. Had to buy glue to stick it as no time for return and waiting for replacement due to imminent exam.
