Important to adjust it correctly
My wife can now get out of her wheelchair now.

It works well enough, with a minor adjustment.
My sister has ALS and dementia, and this seat lift has been very helpful! I wish it wasn't so heavy, because I have the carry it wherever we go. I ended up setting at the next higher pounds setting than she really needs, but the lower setting didn't help her getting up. Now, when she sits on it, I have to push down on it to add "weight" for it to go down. But then it really does help her when she tries to get up! Also, I wish it was silent. As it is, it squeaks, which makes her giggle (thanks, dementia!), and that isn't exactly appropriate at church, for example. Still, I'm glad we have it.

Don’t buy! Can’t even return it!
This does not work as it says. Now I’m trying to return it and I’m not allowed for some reason! I am well within the 30 days. Now I’m stuck with this damn thing that doesn’t work and out $117!

Works as advertised - use with caution
Item was received in poor condition with stains underneath the cover and a strong mildew smell. We tested it and it works. I think it will be very useful so I am returning for a replacement. PROS: -Works as advertised; takes a little getting used to.. when you sit, there is a pause and you start to slowly sink until your body weight passes the point of resistance then you quickly sink the rest of the way which is ok once you know what to expect -The cover IS waterproof even though it doesn’t look like it and it’s not some hot, sticky uncomfortable rubbery material. I tested it by placing toilet paper under the cover and pouring water on the seat. The toilet paper remained dry, even after pressing on it to simulate someone sitting on it while wet. I will still place a barrier between the cover and cushion in case of leaks bc the cushion material seems like it would be difficult to get stains and smells out. CONS: -Heavier than expected and awkward to carry with you everywhere, but, if you need it, you need it -It has quite a bit of “thrust” when standing. I’m 42yo and fully able to stand on my own & it unbalanced me a little first time. I understand this is what it’s supposed to do so this is just a warning for the elderly or anyone with balance issues. Be careful. I found setting the weight limit lower than suggested helped. My 74yo MIL is 5’11” 174lbs and the “160lb” setting was too much. I adjusted to “130” and it’s much better. -It’s hard to set.. it requires a little bit of upper body strength to bend the seat as needed to set it up. I guess anyone who needs it would probably have assistance. However, if an elderly person purchased it to aid a spouse, they might need help with the initial setup. Then they could just transport it in the set up position rather than flattening it to travel. A minor inconvenience. -It makes the seat rather high. Anyone who is a little shorter might have some difficulty unless the seat you place it in is on the lower side bc you need to get your weight toward the back of the seat in order for it to “sink”. Again.. lowering the weight setting helps with this, but that decreases the amount of lift assistance you get when standing. Overall, it’s a great product. It will help me bc I won’t have to lift my very tall MIL out of lower seats. Plus I won’t have to place a pad underneath her everywhere we go to guard against leaking.. this is much less obvious :)

Good idea but....
The product is heavier than expected, the seat cushion is VERY hard and I received it broken so I could not get it to work properly to review the function but by looking at it, the idea seems great but you also need good upper body strength to help assist the lift. Then once you're up so far, your hands won't reach the arms of the chair and the lift will not continue to raise you from that position. It's a hydraulic bar that lifts the seat. I checked the return policy before I purchased and it said non-refundable unless defective or damaged so I knew I took a 50-50 chance. However when I tried to return it as damaged they still would NOT ALLOW THE REFUND. I ended up calling Amazon customer service to explain the issue and she immediately honored the refund. I was very pleased with the whole thing. So be cautious in ordering this. If the person is under 150 lbs, I'd say it definitely might help get up but it seems tricky to get it to work properly.

Better than the standard but not by much
I paid $115 for this and I thought would be much more comfortable than the $70 one but it's not that much better, the weight is more but the comfort does not last for the 2 hours of a flight. However, it's an improvement for some of us with myopathies than need help standing in places such as restaurants, the office, and cinemas

Great for handicapped people on the go. Would be nice if Carex developed a toilet seat lift as well
Using the right power setting is crucial. You don't want the piston in a slot that is too strong, but you don't want it set in a power slot that is too low either. My wife needs the lowest setting. She doesn't trust the device. Afraid of falling off her chair. Works best in chairs with arm rests, definitely not for chairs with rollers. Would be nice if the device were lighter and somewhat thinner. My disabled sister in law also tried this device. Had similar reaction as my wife. Hoping they will reconsider. Should I keep it? most likely not, but I think it definitely has promise.

Great But Double Check
Great product, but Check to make sure there are no stains when you open your package and take the covering off.

Wouldn't Be Without It
My Wife has got to the stage that I need to lift her up out of her chair, which is difficult to do without hurting her especially when it is required several times a day. With this amazing cushion she doesn't need me there even. I chose this over an electric one because my Wife is hopeless with remote controls, this is self activating, such a clever piece of kit. She was a bit apprehensive about it at first but after a couple of days to get used to it & to adjust to the right amount of push-up she is over the moon about it. Take it everywhere & it works on almost any chair you can think of, highly recommended.

Unlifting
I wanted this to help my 94 year old Mother to stand up from her chair, but had to send it back for a refund. Just not strong enough, not that my Mother is heavy she is only 9 stone, just not enough control on the spring.

This was not suitable for my mother as she was ...
This was not suitable for my mother as she was unable to use it in her swivel chair. It went down too slowly but helped her up too quickly for her arthritic knees to cope!

It is not usable by a weak old person
Unfortunately, this is not a design for a weak old person. It takes a very strong force to bend the chair top for setting the piston for the proper weight. Also, for an old person, it is very hard to try to seat when the chair is extended at about 40% upwards. It takes a big effort to squeeze the upper side of the chair when it is extended, especially by trying to seat when one cannot easily bend. Also be aware: this is not a returnable item, which it not very clear when one places the order.
