Difficult for old eyes. Good Watch.
The watch is perfect. Living in the Southeastern US the atomic time function works perfectly. Solar charging is also a plus. The display is difficult to see at times. I will put the blame on older eyes, and I have the positive display version of this watch. One saving feature of the watch is the auto backlight which does a nice job of illuminating the display. Outdoors and brighter light the display is at its best.

Very Rugged and Stylish
Although I returned it after a week since I did not feel it was worth having as I have another model without a radio sync capability. Absolutely great watch for its style and reliability. Can not beat the cost for what these watches are known for. Radio sync can be tricky as its harder at times to receive a signal for many reason that includes your surrounding. So don't be surprised.

The classic Casio square...upgraded!
This is infamous Casio square, the very first G-Shock that started it all back in 1983. The 5610 continues that lineage, keeping the same classic square shape and offers one of the slimmest profiles of any G-Shock models today. Because of its classic timeless shape, its perfect for work or recreation, and doesn't look out of place in any occasion, even with a suit. This watch is perfect for anyone looking for a timepiece that's simple and unobtrusive. I would recommend this model as the first for anyone looking to start dipping their toes in the G-Shock world. This particular model is the 5610U (at least, the one I received from Amazon). The "U" is the updated model, I believe released in 2022, offering an upgraded LED light amongst other enhancements. What's great about this watch is that you essentially don't really need to do anything to it once you set it up. The Multi-Band 6 automatic radio time syncing syncs with the atomic clock signal put out in Fort Collins (in US) so you'll get the most accurate reading as long as you set up your home city. The watch syncs up nightly as long as you place it near a window. Other functions the watch has includes stopwatch, countdown timers, alarms, and world time (48 cities with 5 customizable city settings). This model also features power saving function where the watch turns off if left in the dark for a while, making it last even longer. Oh yeah, did I mention that its solar powered? As long as the watch gets to see some sun here and there, it will never run out of batteries. It doesn't even need to be directly in the sun, it works with any light source. Its essentially a set it and forget it watch. Never need to set the time and never need to swap or charge the battery. This is a watch that's designed and made to withstand any type of destruction or disaster. Who needs a smart watch? NOTE: Even though Amazon lists this watch as the "Japan" model (1BJF), it is NOT. This is actually the international model (1BJF) which may deter some purists looking for the "Made in Japan" printed on the underside. As far as I can tell, there are no noticeable differences in style or functionality except for where its made (international models are made in Thailand). Just something to keep in mind.

MOSTLY top notch!
Yes, the negative display is hard to read under certain conditions. That said, the atomic time reception and solar charging bring it to the top! If I could give it an extra half star, I would. The slightly smaller size makes it perfect for smaller wrists and fit for wearing under sleeves.

Great for indoor use, like in an office. Not great in low light or strong sunlight.
I have worn this Casio G-Shock GWM5610 for over a month. It has the "negative display", with amber colored numbers on a dark/black background. As others have mentioned, the numbers can be difficult to read under certain lighting circumstances. I notice it most when in BRIGHT sunlight. The time is difficult or impossible to read at times with just a glance. The screen washes out to appear mostly uniform black across it. I see a similar issue when in low light circumstances, like when watching TV at night in a darkened room with no overhead or nearby lighting. Thankfully the watch has a backlight that helps a lot in some cases. You hit the upper right button on the side of the watch and it backlights the screen with blue for maybe a second and a half or so. This is helpful in the dark and in sunlight. But that does require two-hands then to see the time. You can also set the backlight to pop on for a second automatically when you roll the watch toward your face, that way two hands are not required to turn on the light and check the time - however this feature does not work in bright light, so does not help you when outside in sunlight. When inside and with normal interior lighting around you, like in an office situation, this watch is GREAT. Its easy to read the time as long as you angle the watch face appropriately toward your eyes. The watch is good looking, and I like its dark appearance and golden numbers. Its solar powered, which I love, and I've not had any issues with it keeping up with the increased power needs presented by turning on the auto-light. It is amazingly accurate, and has not drifted at all. I have not played with the other uses for the watch, but have read that it does have an alarm and timer and other functions. I don't like the watch band as much as a "normal" watchband. It has caused some discomfort both due to the polymer material apparently itching and the buckle poking me more than is normal. I always wear a watch, like 100% of the time, and I generally don't have these issues with any of my other watches but none of my other watches have a polymer watchband. To address this I will likely to transition the watch to a more bracelet-like watchband like the V2 version being used on some other GWM510 models or a metal version, or perhaps a Zulu band. I bought this watch for $100 during a sale in 2022. Overall I like the watch and I would buy it again at that price. I work in an office and am not bothered by the challenges with seeing the time in bright sunlight or darkness. I can hit the backlight button in those cases, or just check my phone. If you live or work alot in bright sunlight or darkness I probably would not recommend this watch for you. I would suggest you lookat one of the normal displays rather than a negative display, or maybe an analog version of a G-Shock.

Great watch!
Great watch. The screen is little bit darker than my other negative screen Casio watch, maybe because this one is solar powered. Once you get used to it, it's nothing. I wear it every day since I got it. Perfect for my little square collection.

Looks good but you can't read the watch in indoor lighting situations very well at all.
I like the design and aesthetics of the watch, however, if you are situated inside in the middle of the day with natural lighting the screen is just not legible. Other than that, the watch came perfectly synced and in time, and the band is very comfortable.

Very good watch, wrong model number
It's a very nice watch, one of my favorite in Casio. I have another color but still bought this one for reverse display. Just keep in mind that it is 5610u in stead of the 5610(old version) showing in the picture. The back light is LED instead of green el from old version. The function does become a little bit more convenient on the new version. Really depend on what you priorities.

Legibility is absolutely horrible...
I had ordered the "EL" with standard LCD display but unfortunately received the "U" model with the reverse LCD display. The legibility is terrible. I have about 5 other LCD Casios and they're fantastic, but I'm not at all happy with the reverse LCD on this model. Will return and try to get the older "EL" model. Good news is the Multi Band 6 (Atomic Time) worked perfectly on this model from Calgary, Alberta.

Very slick looking watch, and super comfortable to wear.
Watch came exactly as hoped for. Takes a little bit to learn all the functions, nothing is complicated, just lots of features packed into a very simple design. I get lots of comments on it, and I appreciate that it can't be found everywhere. Can be a bit tough to read in low light, but there is a feature that can help with that as well. Ultimately, it is a great addition.
