Smaller than expected

I normally order a size small, but from my experience with cotton underwear is that they’ll shrink along the way, so I decided to get a Medium to make up for that, but even with these, after the wash, felt small/tight. It doesn't feel as suffocating as it would be if I ordered a small, but still can feel the tightness and wished I got a Large instead.
