Great value

It's less expensive than the big expensive spreaders and it does a great job of spreading seeds around the yard. I have a second one to spread rock salt on my driveway.

Easy to use

I had been using a bowl to toss my ice melt. It is amazing how much more efficient this spreader is. I didn’t realize how much melt I was wasting till I saw how evenly this was able to disperse only my surfaces without having to make unnecessary extra refills. It is very lightweight and it has a couple different size gauges to suit the volume.

Does the job. Would purchase again.

I bought two different spreader from two different companies - one of which is this one from Chapin. Overall, I think I like this one better for comfort, the amount it holds and the ease of filling it. (The other was a different brand, color green and came with it's own separate scoop.) I would buy this Chapin again.

Wish it was bigger.

Works fine but just doesn't hold enough to really be that useful. You have to keep refilling it all the time. I suppose if you're just salting a small area from time to time it would be fine.

Excellent spreader, easy to direct minimize waste

I've only had one chance to use it once to spread ice melt on my deck. I was impressed with how well it spreads the ice melt. I'm going to try it in spring time to spread seeds. If you're doing a smallish area it is much better to use this than a spreader with a wheel or crank driven distributer.

Hand Seed Spreader

The spreader was originally purchased to use as a grass seed spreader. But will use it to spread ice melt in the winter. Only assembly was placing the top on the container.
