The FL85R Headlamp is our most potent rechargeable front loaded LED headlamp. The light features our Flex Charge Dual Power system. The Flex Charge feature allows for the rechargeable battery pack to be recharged inside or outside of the headlamp using a micro USB. The Dual Power enables it to run on our custom rechargeable battery pack or standard alkaline batteries. The first button on the headlamp gives you the ability to shine an ultra wide flood beam and then quickly twist the bezel to a long reaching spot beam with transition halo. The second button on the headlamp enables the user to switch rapidly to a fixed red LED light to preserve night vision. It also includes a reflective safety strap for additional safety benefits. With Coast’s commitment to quality, the FL85R Headlamp is impact resistant, weather resistant and its LED is virtually unbreakable. Tested and rated to ANSI/FL1 standards.

Tilt mechanism could be engineered a bit tighter

I use headlamps quite a bit and a pet peeve is that the tilt mechanisms tend to wear and get loose well before the lifespan of the total product is over.

Wicked bright! Great value

I use this for inspecting aircraft during maintenance. I actually turn it to the lowest setting for most tasks to save battery but when you need it the bright setting is awesome. I’ve had other coast rechargeable lights and was happy with them too but this one kicks butt. I ordered this one after loosing my smaller model while camping. I should have left it at work where it had been reliable for more than 3 years.

Great for crafting

This is so comfortable. I love that the light can tilt and help me focus on different projects. The brightest light is actually too bright, but the next down is great. I am a weaver. This light helps me see fine threads.

Favorite light made better rechargeable

I have a predecessor light with rechargeable batteries that have to be removed to charge. The batteries were a real pain to get out every just too tight a fit. This new light has a great charger plug so no need to mess with batteries. When charging you have a red light then a bright green. No doubt there. The lumens on this light are why I got a second one. Many lights this powerful have a battery in back which I don’t like as much and the eight of this is no problem but I don’t wear it for more than 30 minutes to walk the dogs. I like the adjustable beam pattern but mostly leave it on wide to walk dogs in the rain for best visibility by cars. Cars see this lamp and in the rain I temporarily go to high as they approach but generally lowest setting is enough to walk the neighborhood. Nice big buttons are great to operate with gloves. Price is high but it is a great head torch.

Good but large

Larger than other Coast headlamps and will not fit into a front pocket or back pocket. It feels heavy on the forehead. The light beam is very bright and well focused shining for hundreds of feet and illuminating objects clearly.

Coast is typically excellent.

Had higher hopes for this than my other coast. Light is brighter, but unit is also much larger in size and weight. Big enough to need to a middle head strap. Wont end up using much now because my other is still lighter and dont want anything bigger than that one. Will still keep as a backup though. No green light, just white and red.

Bought as a gift for a fisherman- he loved it!

My brother recommended I buy this brand for him for a gift, best headlamp that he uses and he bought more after! Super bright perfect for night fishing!

Dims Too Quickly

The light output is quite strong when I first turn it on but after about 30 seconds to 1 minute there is a decent fall off in brightness with a fully charged battery. I have turn it off and on again to get max brightness. It’s a solid product but it’s lame that you don’t get max brightness over 1 minute.
