Good value but does not fit well
I got this for a good price but unfortunately it does not fit well, so I have to return it.

The next best thing to Columbia's Aruba IV nylon convertible pants with liners and cargo pockets
I've been wearing basically the exact same pants full-time for the last dozen years: thin, lightweight nylon pants, that convert to shorts, with a mesh liner so you can use them while backpacking without underwear, and cargo pockets for a little extra storage. For a long time, the sole pants I could find that met all those requirements were Columbia's Aruba IV (or prior) pants. I bought four pairs of them in 2009, then another four in 2013. Unfortunately, in the time since 2013, they've discontinued them. I've never found anything matching these exact requirements, but it seems Columbia still comes closest. The Backcast convertible pants are nearly identical to the Aruba IV, except that they're missing a front cargo pocket (partially mesh so it drains water) on each leg, and they add a small credit-card-sized pocket on the right leg to hold a small wallet. (They're pretty much perfect for me to fit my current wallet made of bicycle inner tubes that expands to hold a bunch of credit cards and perhaps a few bills.) They're not *exactly* what I wanted. But they get the job done. I used the prior cargo pockets mostly to carry a wallet and a pocket Constitution. My current very-thin wallet fits in the new wallet pocket. The pocket constitution will fit in a normal pocket on the leg. With those redistributed to either position, my legs feel as unencumbered as they did with the previous pants. If you want lightweight pants suitable for backpacking or pretty much any activity, these work great. Do note: lightweight comes at a little cost in durability. This nylon breaks wind and even sheds beads of water to some degree. But if it rips...that's functionally a looming death sentence. For me, it's worth the tradeoff. If these had cargo pockets, I'd give them five stars. But they otherwise get the job done, so four stars.

good quality for price
once i cut out the swimming trunk liner i had a great pair of pants that turn into shorts. nice light weight material, zippers function properly, and fit true to size. this specific style has a elastic band with draw strings at the waist and the legs are baggier than the columbia pairs with a button and belt over style. so far my favorite pair of columbia convertible pants.

Good pant, not durable.
Generally a good pant. After a few washes, one of the pockets store. I carry a lot of stuff in my pockets when hiking. The tear is kind of a pain, so I stopped using the pants.

Purchased but ended up returning.
I have always liked Columbia’s gear. Still do. These particular pants were not cut quite as comfortable as others, add to that the cost, I ended up returning.

Quality has declined over the years
I have been wearing these Columbia pants for years, my old pairs finally reached a point of retirement after about 6 or 7 years of use. I bought 2 new pairs a few months ago and after a half dozen uses each, one pair split apart right in the crotch. The other pair is coming apart at several seams. My old pairs were double stitched around all the seams that would see tension or force but these new ones are only single stitched. I guess they started cutting a few corners to keep it profitable. If you just need sun protection these will be fine, but if you intend to be active, these just wont hold up.

Great for outdoors, very comfortable
I use these for working in hot weather, fishing, hiking and almost every other outdoor activity. Very comfortable, lite weight and dry fast when wet. The fabric is strong enough to protect from tall brush and tree limbs. I’ve never actually unzipped and removed the lower leg section but I assume some folks would find that a nice feature also. In spite of all the abuse, they still look great.

Ok

Ruby Pants that turn into shorts
I got them for a light weight, versatile pair of pants for camping/canoe trips. They fill the bill. Wouldn't really want to wear them anywhere else.
