Dangerous shoe design can leave you more prone to ankle rolling / breaking / sore joints
A little background, I'm an avid big mountain trail runner here in the PNW and you can often find me running some of the biggest peaks in the area like Hamilton Mountain, Dog Mountain, Trail Mountain, Mt Defiance and Starvation Ridge and several trails around Mt Hood. Last weekend I ran Mt Adams summit but in a different shoe and here is why... The new Trinity AG shoe has many flaws compared to the Montrail FKT trail runner. The first being the robust shoe design. I felt like I was running in clogs up the mountain on my first test run up Angels Rest. While the Trinity AG is lighter in weight than my Montrail FKT it felt bulker. The Trinity foam is not as dense and you get this constant bouncing feeling which is terrible for your joints as a runner. I can run for hours in my Montrail FKT shoes without joint pain because of denser foam but it takes only a few miles in the Trinity and it gives me pain. The orthlite insoles are absolute garbage. Probably the cheapest insole I have seen in a Columbia trail running shoe. The FKT insole has arch support and cradles the foot providing better balance and prevents ankle roll on uneven surfaces. The Trinity shoe has a major design flaw and no outer edge support around the toe box area, so I constantly was fighting ankle rolls whenever I was running on uneven rocky surfaces. I usually buy 2-3 pairs of trail runners at a time to get me through the year and I was totally bummed when Columbia discontinued the FKT runner I had previously purchased. I really wanted to like this shoe, I bought 3 pairs, but 2 of them are being returned and these will be washed and resold as used. My search goes on to find some more pairs of my old runner or hopefully Columbia brings the FKT back.
