Thighs slightly tight

Based on other reviews, I sized up, but shouldn't have. They fit true to size ( I returned and ordered my normal size). The thighs are slightly tight when I walk through. But I have pretty thick thighs. For size reference I got my usual size large. I'm 5'5", 170 pounds.

Great Shorts for Active Lifestyles

I am 5'8" and 118 lbs. I currently own these shorts in black and white in the small size. The shorts fit fine but the crotch area can seem snug when I first put them on after they've been laundered. After an hour or so they stretch and the tight feeling goes away. So if you're on the fence order the smaller size knowing they bag out eventually. The material is great, you can wear these babies rafting and they'd be dry a half hour later. I wear them when I'm out and about with my toddler as hey, you never know when you're going to get wet with a kid around, right? I wash and dry them in my front loaders and have never had an issue. They do get kind of wrinkly/crinkly but they aren't made for wearing to a fancy restaurant so I don't care about that. The white is a bit of a bright, icy white. Black is truly black. The real pockets are awesome, although the back zippered pocket is so deep that when I put my phone back there I end up sitting on it half of the time and needing to shift it around. Overall great shorts though.

Fits well and lightweight

For reference, my teen is 5'4" and 120 lbs. The size small fit her great. I am not sure why they aren't fitting others, but they are fine in her. This isn't her choice of shorts, but they are needed for her summer job at an amusement park. I got them because they are lightweight and should do well if anything spills on them. Last summer, she was constantly soaked in lemonade and sno cone juice when finished with her shift, so hopefully these dry-wick shorts help with that. I would recommend them to anyone needing navy uniform shorts. Update: She loves wearing these shorts to work. I wish I could buy more in navy.

Disappointed Columbia lover

I'm a long-time Columbia fan. Love the quick dry fabric. I was disappointed that this fabric had absolutely no stretch which is an issue for activewear. Loved all of the design aspects of these shorts except they were much too large in the waist across the belly & tight in the thighs. The way the shorts are made there's absolutely no way to easily alter the waist area. It was an expensive alteration project. The fit in the waist compared to the fit in the thigh seemed one size off. The thighs fit tight and the waist too large so the shorts were ill-fitting. I wear a med./10 & am slim in the waist, hips and thighs. I bought a large so I would have plenty of room for movement. I expected them to fit loosely but I didn't expect them to be to tight in the thigh & way too big in the waist and unwearable without alteration.

Sizing chart is not correct

I gave these these 4 stars because after having them altered they were great. Unfortunately the size chart is way off in it's sizing. The xs were 2-3 inches too large in the waist for me even though the size chart indicated they would fit perfectly. The cost of the alteration was essentially the same price as the shorts so I ended up paying twice the price to get a pair of shorts that fit. I could have returned them but I liked the fabric and style and there's a good tailor in my neighborhood so.....

Great Value

This is a great pair of shorts -- cool, comfortable, and well-made. I have trouble finding shorts that fit (I'm 5'2", 110 lbs, 27" in the waist, and 36" in the hips). These fit almost perfectly. They are comfortable in the hips and the length is great. They are just a tad too large in the waist, which is a recurring problem for me (hence, the four instead of five stars). Fortunately, I wield a pretty mean sewing needle and made a few some small adjustments so that now the fit is perfect. I'm ordering a second pair.

Actual shorts much larger than size chart

These are a great feeling short, however the sizing is very off for me. I got Bright Geranium in a size XL and they were waay too big! I could fit pull the waist out about 3" and hips about 1-2". I'm a size 10/12 (more on the 12 side right now) and I have a 36" natural waist and 44" hip, which aligns with the XL in the size chart, but I am sizing down to a Large. They're in the mail, but hopefully they will fit as expected! (Note: I don't like baggy shorts, I like tailored ones that stay up without a belt.)

Great for the boat

Nice shorts for the boat/fishing. Fits well and quality is what you’d expect from Columbia. Watch the sizing - I’m usually a small but had to buy XS in these shorts b/c of the waist measurement. There’s a huge difference in the waist size between S and XS....more than you’d expect. And the black shorts seem to run slightly bigger than the white.

Good shorts

These are good shorts at the sale price I got them at, a bit pricey at the regular price. Material, zipper, and snaps all seem to be of decent quality. Light weight and will do well in hot humid climates. Haven't washed them yet so cant say how they'd come out of the washing machine. I bought my usual size and they fit as expected. I'd recommend them at a sale price but don't think they are anything over and above your normal expectations for a good pair of shorts to warrant paying full price.

Outstanding

These shorts are fabulous. They fit well, are long enough to suit me, and are very well made. Can’t wait to take them out on trail to beat them up a bit to see how they perform. The only thing I’d suggest is deeper pockets.
