Fun afternoon activity
We purchased a few for a grandchildren activity. It was fun and the lights are cute. They are now hanging in bedrooms and beings enjoyed.

Only for kids with adult assistance
My 8 year old absolutely loved this project! And the results in my picture speaks for itself. After reading some of the other reviews, results definitely vary upon crafting experience. The directions were thorough enough, though there were a few things that could have been explained better. It was a very straightforward and simple project that only took about 20 minutes aside from drying time. We put down a plastic garbage bag on the table so we could set down the balloon while wrapping or lay out the two feet or so of the gooey string segment to be wrapped. Childeren cannot easily understand that the gaps need to be filled in, so that the lantern will be balanced with proper support, and thats where an adults assistance comes in handy. Once dry, it was very easy to separate the balloon from the string before pulling it out. I slipped some scissors part way inside and cut the balloon up into a few pieces, so as to not damage the delicate string or distort the shape when pulling the balloon out. My only complaint is that I had to use about 4oz more of white glue that I had on hand, as what was provided was not enough to easily coat both the ball and spool of string. If our glow in the dark string came on a cardboard card as stated and shown instead of a large plastic spool, we would not have needed the extra glue. Half of the extra glue went to waste because the of the bulkyness of the plastic spool, rather than the cardboard card it was supposed to be wrapped around. Great project and great price for everything you get! And the finished product is adorable!

Chunky glue
Everything was great except our glue came chunky, like slime. It was no good. I ordered 2 and both glues were bad. This project can be very messy if your not careful.

Neat
It was messy and we had to use a Capri Sun straw instead of the one provided to blow up the balloon because we couldn’t get the one provided in the hole. Very pleased with the end result though!

Beautiful, see pic but…..
Great craft but says age 8 or higher , my dd is very crafty and 11 but needed my guidance every step of they way. Finished product is lovely and will make a lovely addition to her room but most kids will not be able to do independently.

Use more glue!
This was such a fun and SUCCESSFUL project. 4 stars as we ended up using more glue than it came with, for EXTRA strength. All other reviews stating that it's difficult for the kid is absolutely correct. We prepped for this and my 5 year daughter helped with feeding me the glue coated yarn and squeezing out excess glue while I wound it around the balloon. It was definitely helpful to have another set of hands! Again, we used more glue than what it came with for extra security and I am glad we did. We waited almost a full 24 hours for things to dry and carefully peeled the balloon out - pencils and chopsticks were useful during this stage (again, more of an adult task). I had my doubts that we'd be successful, but am pleasantly surprised that it worked. Still working out how to hang it and where to store the battery box.

Fun, but hard, with underwhelming results
I bought this for myself, as an adult. I’m a very experienced crafter, but have a relatively short attention span, limited organizational skills, and generally pretty immature taste, and tend to prefer kids craft kits to try new techniques. Creativity for Kids is one of my favorite brands (the other is Klutz), and they rarely disappoint. This kit, though, was pretty meh, especially from a company that usually does so much better. The instructions were clear enough, but I found it difficult to get the string to stay where I wanted it, in order to follow the star shape. It wasn’t an enjoyable challenge, just frustrating. The end result is lumpy, only barely star shaped, and pretty flimsy on one side. The lights help some with the overall look, but not nearly enough, especially for the price. Also, this craft is MESSY! This may be a pro or a con, and could be great a great sensory activity for kids that like the feel of glue, but do be prepared for this. Most of the process involves using your hands to coat everything in glue. I covered my workspace in newspaper then a garbage bag, used the included gloves, and wore designated crafting clothes, and it was still hard to avoid getting glue on everything in my house, even as an adult. With kids involved, expect to have glue everywhere. It is washable craft glue (comparable to Elmer’s school glue), but definitely be prepared for a mess. Overall, this kit was frustrating even as an adult, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for kids who are likely to have high standards for the finished product. However, it could be a good project for kids who like the sensory experience of coating string with glue and aren’t so picky about the end result. Also, despite the disappointing results of this kit, it did still leave me feeling more confident about trying a string lantern with my own materials.

Beautiful end product!!
End product is beautiful and so much fun to do with the kids. Younger ones will need help as it’s a little difficult to hold and wrap the wool

Not an easy craft.
Cool concept....but super messy - the instructions are to put this large ball of string into a mug, pour glue over the string and then wrap it around the balloon. Needless to say when my kids did it the string got totally matted and we couldn't use it. We are starting over with some new string and balloon.

So fun and looks great!
So fun to do! My son made this for his room it turned out beautifully. It was very straightforward to do but was better to have two people. It’s pretty messy but worth it!
