great rice cooker
i tried a few rice cookers of similar size and none compared well to this one. it's just the right size for a single person, and at 825 watts, it heats water very quickly, so i can prepare my meals faster than before. i've mothballed my pressure cooker in favor of this unit since, when you add the time it takes for pressure to build in a pressure cooker, the total cooking time really isn't very different from this cuisinart.

Love it
The reviews showing this rice cooker in the trash and saying it overflows have been written by people who don’t know how to properly cook rice. This rice cooker is fantastic and has an attractive industrial look. Use with the steamer rack even when just cooking rice.

Hmm. It doesn't feel like an improvement over an inexpensive rice cooker.
I wanted to love this. It looks great on the counter when it's out and the steaming feature is nice. A few issues, though. First, rice ALWAYS boils over - even 1/2 a cup. This rarely happens in my inexpensive Dash cooker. Second, the lid isn't well constructed/sanitary. The glass isn't sealed to the rim. In fact, the gap between the glass and the rim traps food and it's difficult to clean. Finally, there's something odd about the coating. Cuisinart says it's non-toxic (great), but it doesn't like water. In fact, it doesn't dry without a towel. I've never seen that in a pan or appliance... all said, I'd go with a different option if I could do it again (and I own/love several cuisinart appliances).

Ideal for rice AND STEAMING
I did a ton of research on all rice cookers out there, on/off and fuzzy logic, and then every brand and type within that category. This is why I settled on the Cuisinart after all the research, and despite the so-so reviews: -- I wanted something with a small footprint. I live in a NYC apt and cook only for myself, my baby, and sometimes a meal for 2 w my boyfriend. I wanted a 3 or 4 cup cooker. -- I wanted a steamer. I knew I would likely use the steam function as much as the ricemaking function (hello healthy and convenient meals), to steam veggies, fish, chicken, dumplings, buns, etc. Because I cook for my baby, the steam function is also really important so that I can steam veggies and other food, and then blend them for him. -- I wanted something that could cook rice AND steam at the SAME TIME. I am a busy woman, and like to multitask, and want my appliances to as well. Many of the rice cookers that also come with a steamer tray only allow you to steam OR cook rice (the steamer tray sits at the bottom of the rice pot). Or the ones with a steamer that sit on top and allow you to cook rice underneath are usually 5 cup or larger ricemakers. I couldn't find a single one that combined all three of these elements together. (FYI, in case you are looking for it, I was able to find only ONE fuzzy logic ricecooker that was small (3 cup) and also had a steaming tray and steaming function--the Zojirushi Rizo Micom with the cool design. But the steam tray sits at the bottom of the pot, so doesn't allow you to cook rice and steam food at the same time) So now I have had this Cuisinart for a while and am very happy with it. It cooks brown rice beautifully (I cook with low-sodium chicken broth for flavor, and have never had a problem with bubbling over), I steam veggies on top, and my meal is done when the switch flicks off. It's nice when the flavor of whatever is steaming on top (and the marinades) drip down to flavor the rice. Of course I have to play around with timing to make sure it all finishes at the right time, but it's not a big deal. It's small, cleans up easily (all parts dishwasher safe, although a quick scrub in the sink usually does it), and is just fantastic because I feel like it's a machine that's equal parts rice cooker and steamer (rather than a ricecooker that you can use to steam as an afterthought). If you are big on making perfect rice and you're all about the rice, then this is probably not the machine for you-- you can find something better out there. But if you're big on steaming food and want to cook rice too (and often see yourself doing both at the same time), this is perfect. I'm buying 2 as Christmas presents for my friends!

Worked great until it didn’t.
I bought this product in September and have used it maybe a half dozen times since receiving it. Worked great and easy to clean. It has been stored well in a cabinet when not in use and has not received any damage. Now in January it will not cook at all- won’t come off of the ‘warm’ setting. And once plugged in and ‘warmed up’ it almost instantly has this awful plastic/metal burning smell that is very concerning. There is nothing I can see that has gotten into it or anything broken. Looks just as new as when I bought it. Not sure what happened but super disappointing seeing it is now out of the window for returns and completely useless at this point. Will not repurchase simply because it was taken care of and used very few times and without any reason broke. Wished it worked out I really liked the simplicity.

This is our second purchase of this product. very impressive.
The positive is the ease of use and versility of the product. the only negative is the teflon coating which tends to wear out too quickly . Love this product.

Its worth it!!
I believe it is worth the extra money as the container that holds the rice is very well made and the non-stick finish is baked on inside and out which gives me peace of mind that it will not wear off as my old one did. Plus you don't have to think, just put your rice in and its done in a few minutes and it looks great on the counter along side my stainless steel appliances.

Great product..15 years and still going
This is my second Cuisinart Rice cooker. I have one that is over 15 years old , used min 4 times a week . The only reason I replaced it is the ex used steel spoons and the pot is scratched . Still works great but scratches bugged me so I gave it to my sister. This is by far the best unit out there. It is simple with no computers and works like clockwork....would give 10 stars if I could

Easy to clean
This little ricer is a joy to own. It's has a fast easy learning curve. Incredibly easy to clean. Just take out the interior ceramic and wash. Make sure you let everything cool down first. Set it up in the morning and turn it on after you come home at night. Ricer comes with a manual that has some interesting and easy to make rice recipes. It comes with a simple steamer system. My only minor concern is that the glass cover could be better designed to feel properly closed. It feels slippery sitting on the pot. This ricer is something I use daily. It save me washing a pot!
