Like a hitch pin and clip, a hitch lock is designed to insert into the fastener hole in the side of a receiver tube in order to hold a ball mount or hitch-mounted accessory in place. While a CURT hitch pin does offer sufficient strength for keeping your ball mount firmly attached, a CURT hitch lock goes one step further. CURT hitch locks allow you to lock your ball mount into your trailer hitch, deterring theft and preventing anyone from detaching your trailer at the ball mount and towing away your property without your permission. This CURT hitch lock features a barbell design with a stainless finish and comes with a 1/2" pin diameter and a 5/8" diameter adapter sleeve. This allows it to be used on either a 1-1/4" or 2" receiver tube size. CURT barbell hitch locks are comprised of a pin with two end caps and a round locking mechanism. They are key-operated and activate with a simple 1/4-turn. They also come with watertight dust caps to keep out the elements and prevent corrosion. Works great, but can be tricky to remove

My only complaint (and it is minor) is that the sleeve for this locking pin can be hard to remove when you're ready to remove whatever's mounted to your receiver. Since the locking pin is relatively short, there's just an 1/8th of an inch of that sleeve to grab onto when you want to pull it out and if say, your cargo carrier is exerting any sort of pressure on it, it'll be impossible to remove without some fiddling. I recommend getting the longer version of this product, even for a 2" receiver. Other than that, this product is excellent. I just used it a bunch on a 1200 mile trip where I had to attach and remove a 60" cargo carrier. It seems to hold up well in the rain and the rubber cap did its job.

Looks solid, a bit short

The locking mechanism works well and it seems to be well-made. I didn't get a chance to really test it out though, because the stem was slightly too short for my 2016 Tacoma's factory hitch.
