Works Well But Needs Design Change

Had the brakes stop working on my flatbed so invested in this unit to start the troubleshooting process. First, the unit isn't designed to withstand individual shipping in a normally packed box. It has six current sumps in 3 pairs to emulate the load the brakes would put on. These are dense heavy units attached with a flimsy riveted stud and screw to the thin metal case. One was sheared completely with the current sumps flying about the box. So stop trying to be fancy and just attach with 1/4 inch bolts, fender washers, and lock nuts, which I did. The unit showed the vehicle controller was working fine. Cord length is ample so you can run and see everything from the driver's seat. So I'm glad I have this unit even though it won't get used frequently. I'd recommend a vehicle check every spring with one for sure. 4 stars with one marked down for poor construction.

Needs a better build, works as stated.

Great tool, however... When it was shipped to me then brake magnets with in the case pulled loose from the casing and were freely moving around. In my opinion they are not well secured to begin with. I resecured them with bolts, nuts, and washers. I was not in a position to return it and wait for a replacement. Honestly I believe I'm better off with my repair of the tool. I would have award 4 or 5 star rating if that issue had not occurred. Aside from that it works rather well and I do recommend it.

Turns out controller was bad and wasn’t putting out enough amperage

Wish I would have bought this sooner. Chased a trailer brake issue for a week, ended up being the truck. Tested the connection on the truck with a test light and it lit up so I didn’t thing there was an issue there. Turns out controller was bad and wasn’t putting out enough amperage. Figured it out after I tore apart the trailer brakes. This is a must if you tow a lot of different trailers.
