Perfect for M5 counterbores

I'm building some metal parts for my 3D printer, and I needed to counterbore the mounting holes for the motor mounts. This drill bit (23/64") is perfect for the 5mm SHCS (or low head SHCS), and the shoulder cut by the smaller diameter tip leaves enough material for the 5.5mm drill bit. These drill bits cut extremely well too.

Country of Origin Says Everything

Drilled four holes before it became too dull to continue. Used pilot hole and oil but still couldn’t manage a fifth hole. $2.50 a hole is a ridiculous cost. Embarrassment of a product.

Allows more precise hole-centering than regular hss metal drill bits, but creates significant tearout in softwood.

Creates tearout in SPF (spruce, pine, fir). Won't allow clean dowel/peg holes. I was hoping the "pilot point" tip would allow minimizing tearout, as advertised, but it really helps only to prevent skidding when starting a hole. I tried drilling at various speeds and tried to support the drill holes with sacrificial pieces and clamps, but I can't get clean drill holes. I've purchased a brad point bit separately, and that allows much cleaner work (in wood, at least). The triangular shank locking design is a good idea, it doesn't slip in the drill chuck/jaw. The pilot point is nice for starting a drill hole precisely. I've made a few test holes in a piece of dimensional lumber whose surface has been pre-planed. Attaching result photos for entry and exit (underside) holes. Behind the piece was another sacrificial board, clamped to my test board, it helped with tearout, but it didn't solve the problem completely.
