Lace shoe What more can a shoe offer you than comfort and longevity? These Unisex 5 Eye Padded Collar shoes from Dr. Martens promise all that and a ruggedly attractive style that will even work at the office. If you're on your feet all day, you'll appreciate the Flexlink sole technology, and if you're watching your budget, the Goodyear welt construction will ensure that these will be looking and feeling good for a long time to come. Benefits of Flexlink Technology As the foot flexes, the Flexlink technology in the forefoot filler softens the compression. An Ortholite insole with open cell foam increases breathability and aids in shock absorption. A leather-hinged footbed flexes in tandem with the Flexlink forefoot to enhance flexibility and comfort. Finally, a unique compression chamber cushion system absorbs footfall shock from heel to forefoot. About Dr. Martens Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor’s immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. My first pair of Martens
So the back story here is that I got totally fed up with department store shoes that wore out too quickly. The soles of the last pair of shoes I bought from a shoe "warehouse" type of store split after only about 3 months. One drizzly day I wondered why my feet were soaking wet after just walking across a parking lot. I inspected the shoes and discovered that the soles had split in half. So I decided to spend a little more and try my first pair of Dr. Martens. So far so good, with one caveat which is that these shoes do show scuff marks pretty easily. If you need a pair of shoes to go with a pair of fancy slacks and a tie, these 'aint it. They are much more casual than that. They look right at home with a pair of jeans or khakis though, and I have the luxury of being able to dress business-casual at work, so the look is just about right for me. As I mentioned, they do scuff easily, quickly developing a patina of scuff marks and stains. Nothing horrible though, and you'll notice I use the word "patina" in the same sense that antique furniture aficionados would us it - that is to say a pleasant, natural looking tarnish. A bit of saddle soap now and again seems to blend the scuff marks and make the leather feel more supple. I call these my stealth shoes because something about the soles makes them quiet. The sole looks like some type of yellowish rubber and makes very little noise on the floor as you walk. So if you're employed as a burglar, paparazzi, secret agent, or any other profession which requires you to sneak up on people, these are the shoes for you. :-)

Going on 5 Years, Still Going Strong
I LOVE my Dr. Martens. This is my third pair, quality seems right up there with the first ones. The shoes fit perfectly and very comfortable. Highly recommend.

Not as comfortable as the 1461.
Almost like the classic Doc with a few differences. the soul is exactly the same so I assume all the inner air pockets and construction. The padded collar helps a lot with the edge of the leather it doesn't dig into your soft side of foot skin. Feels tighter and more cramped than the 1461. I think this may be due to the five eyelets vs three. It holds more area of your foot down. The toe box also seems slightly tight. I got the crazy horse gaucho which is nice but scuffs like crazy! You could sit there with your fingernail and go over the entire she and change the shade to more of a yellow. If it's just a scuff and not a gouge you can buff it out with your bare fingers. There seems to be a lot of oil in the finish.

Do Not Buy
The sole falls apart on these shoes and no credit offered. Within three months the soles split in multiple spots on both shoes and the soles fell off. Shoes still in new shape but the soles. Went back to read reviews which I should of done first and everyone else is having same issues. Reached out to Dr Marten and no reply. Sad that their quality has gone down.

Going on 3 Years/ Still Going Strong
I LOVE my Dr. Martens. Quality seems right up there with the ones I used to get in the nineties. (Maybe they've improved?) These shoes have worn great- I'm only looking at getting another pair now (after 3 years), so I can have a slightly different style for different pants. But I've been wearing these at work, and they work GREAT. My co-workers at The New Deli laugh at me, cuz when I get a new pair, I run them over with the car for a day or so. Yep. Roll the tire over the shoe and let it sit like that in the garage overnight. It breaks 'em in pretty quick. With this pair, I only had to do that once, and they were good to go. Another time, I got a size too small, and had to let the car tire sit on 'em for several days, at different angles. But I was still able to wear those ones after that, even with them being a bit tight. My legs and feet are fussy, and will not tolerate most shoes. Yes, these cost more than many shoes, but they're worth every penny to me, since my legs and feet are totally happy. Yay!

Needs more padding!
I would have given it a five star, but they should have put more padding on the Sides of the shoes other than that it's ok. Good fit, comfortable soles. (Update one year later.) Still good they haven't fallen apart yet. They might be a little dirty, but they clean up nicely.

Classic Dr. Martin
My husband owned almost this exact style of docs for about 10 years and the still looked brand new. When he lost them in a move he was super sad. I bought him this pair and he was so excited. They fit well, are true to color & have the look he loves. I read reviews saying the quality in the construction has declined in Docs but that doesn't seem to be the case with these. They are holding up nicely with nearly daily wear. As some of you might recal from the 90s, docs need a few days of wear to "break in". Husband usually wears an 11 W in shoes . I bought him a 12 to accommodate his wide foot and ridiculously thick socks. He is pleased with the fit.

Ordered and Paid for 5 Eye Padded Coller Oxford. deliverred cheaper 8053
I ordered soft leather Collar Oxford. Arrived in a week, just in time to pack for a trip. At destination, found out it is a very hard plastically thick and cheap leather, model 8053. No Dr. Martens logo on the shoes like in advertised pictures. The leather too hard, take time for the plastic to break in lines, for naturally walk. Very upset that being duped and ripped off. Damn you Amazon and Robert Wayne Footwear.
