Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

not sure
After wearing the boots just 1x, a bubbled crease appeared on the right boot near the toes. I am expecting the crease to eventually crack open. Dissatisfied with this

Nice !
I had this boot in the beautiful cherry red color in my cart for a long time hoping the price would decrease enough so I couild buy it without feeling guilty. It did! When I first opened them my first thought was, wow, they look even better in person! And they are a truly beautiful looking boot. BUT, it took about 5 or 6 wears, plus manual stretching of the boots, plus stuffing with paper, plus wearing a protection over my shins, to finally break these in. Now that they are broken in they are so comfortable! They are the perfect size but do fit better with a heavier sock due to the roominess in the boot. I just feel these are going to get better and better as I wear them. I like to wear them with boot cut jeans, but they look great with slim jeans too, and I am pondering wearing them to a casual Christmas party with a skirt and sweater. The color of these just makes the options endless! I am very happy with my purchase.

Docs vs Thursday
I wanted to treat myself to a nice pair of boots that I could trek through snow and rain in yet would work with semi formal office wear. I also wanted something with a bit of flair colorwise. I narrowed it down to these doc martens floras in cherry and Thursday duchess in brown. Overall both are lovely boots. The docs run larger. I usually wear a 9.5-10, especially for winter boots with thick socks. Based on reviews I purchased a 9. They are still a bit looser than the Thursday in 10 (see pic.). The docs are also a bit wider. The other big difference is the shine. Docs are definitely more shiny, almost rainbooty, but I think that will wear over time. I was also a bit sceptical of the gum rubber colored sole, but it reads black in person especially from the top. The docs ended up the winner based on the color. They are just barely maroon. And I love the bit of edge that docs add to my adulting wardrobe ????

The Flora Chelsea boot might just be my holy grail shoe
This is my first pair of Dr. Martens boots and after 16 months of ownership, I'm still impressed by the style, durability, and comfort of these boots. The Flora has a thinner version of the classic Dr. Martens sole which makes the shoe look a bit more formal. In addition, the almond toe of these boots offset the wider footbed typical of Docs and keeps them looking neat even in smaller sizes (I wear a US 6.5 / EU 37 and purchased a UK 4). The Flora looks great with jeans, leggings, or skirts and the burgundy is super versatile while still being fun. These boots have plenty of width in the toe-box and did not require any break-in period. The heel does slip when walking, but not so much as to be either uncomfortable or sloppy. I wear these shoes almost daily (except in summer months) and walk about 4 miles a day in them. The sole has been shockingly resilient to this abuse and has toughed out salty sidewalks, snow, and rain with only a little loss of tread at the heel. The elastic panels have held up perfectly and retain the same stretch and recovery as when I purchased them. Wear is mostly evident in the color of the leather, which has burnished over time – particularly where I scuff my heels when walking. I quite like the way they've weathered, but it does make the boots more casual looking. After 16 months with no maintenance care, the boots have developed a small crack where my toes bend. I suspect this is due to the salty sidewalks I mentioned above, especially as the boots have been of great quality otherwise. I will be buying another pair of Floras once these really wear out and will be sure to put some mink oil on them at regular intervals.

My go-to footwear
These boots are incredible! They're super stylish and feminine whilst still keeping the classic Dr Martin feel. The red color is glamorously muted, becoming more apparent with wear. I've got so many complements on these almost every time I've worn them. These are as comfortable as slippers right out of the box, for reference I typically wear UK size 3-4 / US size 6-7 and the 6 in this style was perfect. I've worn them almost every day since they arrived about 3 months ago and am thinking of getting a second identical pair just in case they stop making this style! They pair with jeans, skirts, dresses, leggings, and will hold up through most weather. I can't recommend these enough!

Happy with my purchase
These are the first pair of Dr Martens that I buy. I usually wear 7.5 but since they were no half sizes i went up to 8. Now that I know this brand tends to fit bigger, next time I would buy a 7. I love the look of them and with the patent leather I can wear them at work as they look more professional. I will have to buy an insole, they hurt the arch of my foot.

The coating wears off
It took a long time to break these bad boys in. Had to buy toe protectors and ankle pads because they literally destroyed my feet! Finally they are good to wear now... 2 months later. Perfect for winter when you add some warm insoles. True to size. (at least for me) The large downfall is that the top coating has worn off quite a bit and you can't use shoe polish to buff out any of the wear. So now my dark cherry boots have noticeable pink/red coming through in all the creases. I scuffed my heel and it also has a big red mark. I don't care as much because I use them for hiking and walking the dog but perhaps if someone wants their boots to remain looking nice & polished, these would not be for you.
