great overhead rack
I bought this product to mount my poles on the roof of my truck topper. The instructions for installation calls for screwing the item to the mounting surface. I was not going to do that! I did use some JB Weld stick puttyJ-B Weld 8247 SteelStik to attach the pole holder to the fiberglass topper. If you plan to do the same thing, just a note on how to wrap the putty so it will get a good, strong hold. It's easiest to mount if the individual circles for holding the pole handle to the bracket so they are already secure before trying the mount it. 1. Fist, buy 2 sticks of putty. You will need it all! Then, get yourself a small bowl of water. If the epoxy isn't wet, it will stick to your fingers. 2. Use your shortest pole for a measuring guide as to where to place the brackets. Mark where to line up the bracket once you have epoxy in hand. I recommend doing one at a time. 3. Mix the epoxy putty. I recommend crawling in the bed of the truck so you're already in position when the epoxy is ready to go. If you've not much experience with epoxy, follow these easy steps: Wet your fingers in the bowl of water. Tear off a chunk of putty about an inch long. Drop it in the water to get it wet, then mix it between your fingers very, very well until the color completely changes. The epoxy will become slightly warm and soft when it's ready. Keep in mind the epoxy will set up too hard to work with in 5 minutes! So, be prepared and don't waste time. 4. Keep your fingers moist. Squeeze the epoxy to a rope-like form about 3 inches long. Starting at one end of the bracket, wrap the putty around the bracket and smash it to the roof. Keep your fingers moist as you squish the epoxy around the bracket and onto the mounting surface so there is a continuous blob of gray epozy covering the end of the bracket. Hold the unsecured end of the bracket up with some tape until you prepare the second batch of epoxy for the other end. Repeat the process for the other end of the first bracket, then also 2 more times through the center of the bracket. 5. Mount the second bracket the same way. Be aware that the epoxy will require at least a couple hours to fully cure, so don't put any weight on the holder just yet. If the holder falls down after a hard cure, just do it again. It will eventually hold if you get enough epoxy on there, and it will NEVER let go! Just a note about the epoxy. Get the one that says steel reinforced, not the general purpose one. The putty is gray with a black center. Good luck, and happy fishing!

Helpful Installation Tips
This rod holder is well made and versatile. But it comes with NO instructions about how to install the set screws that hold the rings and tip holders in place on the tracks. So a few "discoveries" that may be helpful to you: 1. There are six shorter set screws that should be used with the tip holders, and six longer set screws that should be used with the rings that hold the rod handles. 2. I found it impossible to put the set screws in while the holders are in the track. there simply is not enough room, especially on the tip holders, to get the set screws started with the allen wrench. 3. The secret to doing this easily is to take all the holders out of both tracks. then you can easily put the set screws in from the BOTTOM of the holders, You can start them with your fingers this way. Be sure that the closed end of the set screws is facing down and the open end is up towards the top of the holder. Once you have started the set screws and put them in as far as they will easily go with your fingers, you can use the long arm of the allen wrench from the top to easily back them out further. If you back them out until the top of the set screw is just about flush with the inside of the holder, you should be able to slide the holders back into the track easily. Then you can position each holder just where you want it, and tighten the set screw to hold it there. The package does tell you to mount the tracks with #8 screws that are NOT included, and does give a toll-free number to call for questions (877) 776-3474. But for about 15 cents more they could have included some instructions and 10 #8 screws. That would have earned 5 stars instead of the four that I am giving it. It does a great job of holding all of my rods nicely on the wall of my cabin. NOTE: If you are putting rods with spinning reels horizontally on the wall you may only be able to fit 4 or 5 rods, and have space for the reels. You can mix the handle and tip holders so that you can fit 3 rods one way, and 3 rods the other way. But this only works well if you have enough wall space for about 1/3rd to 1/2 the rod length on BOTH sides of the track; if you try to mount the tracks at each end of the rods, the rods will sag because of the flexible rod tips; the track holding the tips needs to be mounted 1/3 to 1/2 way down the rod to hold it properly. Rod space is not a problem if you are mounting the rods overhead or vertically, as the reels can hang down from or stand out from the rack.

Easy to Customize
This is a true 5 star product. Works vertical or horizontal. I installed short pieces of track under the gunnel on my flas boat for concealed storage of 2 rods per side. Also works for gaffs, and other relativly thin items. Good quality aluminum that does not corrode. High quality plastic. This thing just works and works well for a lot of different rods and gear.
