So Close; So Far
My grandson had played with a similar product and liked it so we purchased this. He does like the drilling, etc. The problem is the colored pictures that accompany the product are almost useless the way the product is designed. There is no way to truly see and align the picture with the board to mimic the image. Returning.

great toy, lots of fun!! But beware faulty drill!
I ordered this fit my son for his third birthday. He really wanted a drill to pay with, just like daddy, and I came across this and thought it would be great to have something to go along with it. Upon opening it, . I did feel a little silly spending as much as I did for a simple, plastic toy...but oh well that's the day we live in ;) but it is nice enough, and sure enough, it has provided hours of play over the last month or so since we got it, and I anticipate it will be played with a lot over the years. There is a lot of options for open ended play, besides the included picture cards. It's just fun to drill and undrill, with different drill heads, or put the drill head on the manual best and screw it in by hand. Great toy for building fine motor skills. The one complaint I do have is that the drill that came with this mysteriously reversed the forward and reverse search after less than an hour of play, then got stuck on whenever it was in reverse, then got hit and smelled like burnt plastic. We actually ordered an extra drill, because I knew both my kids, age three and five, would want to play at the same time and since the board is big enough, I thought ten bucks was worth the possibility of shared and enjoyed play time. Which I can tell you now it is worth it!! Buy another drill if you have more than one young child. Anyway, the o other full was higher quality, it was slightly different, looked a little newer. It worked fine. But if course Amazon sent me an exchange, easy and painless, so buy a big deal. Just makes me wonder how long the drill will last...? Hope the replacement, which was just the singular drill and the newer model compared to the one that comes with the kit, will last longer. Either way, I do highly recommend this toy. It's a little expensive for what it physically consists of, but for a toy kids love that is"educational", and will appeal to a wide range of young kids, I think it's worth it.

Great learning tool for different younger ages.
I got this for a present for my 4 year old nephew. When he opened it up he really enjoyed playing with it and liked that he could be creative and make any pattern he liked. He did try the patterns but didn't find them as interesting as he hoped. His first thought was to place the pattern under the board and try to see the colors through the holes but he was playing in dim lighting and had a hard time seeing the colors. Though he had a good idea and I wish they designed the board to have those colors underneath and show up better, like a little lip/ledge to clip them into. You can just lay them aside and count the circles to figure out where to put the colors and that's what we tried explaining to him but he tossed them aside and just had fun making his own designs. I also wish that the drill and bits were magnetized because the kids all had a hard time at first. They would flip the drill so they could set the bolt into it. Then they would flip it back over to drill the bolt into the board and it would fall out. We finally got them putting the bolt straight into the board and if necessary twisting to catch it in a standing position. Then they could easily use the drill to move the bolt into the hole. That is why I marked it down one star, simple magnets could solve this problem for little hands that get frustrated easily. This is marked for ages 3+ so it was perfect for my 4 year old nephew, but his sister 9 years old and my son 10 years old also had a blast playing with it as well. It's a great educational toy while still having fun and creative.

The Grandkids love it
I bought this for our 3 yr old grandchild but the 10 yr olds find it fun too. It is durable and has puzzle pages to influence their fun. Colorful and fun.

Playable out of box but drill needs 3 AA batteries to use.
At first glance my son was not interested. But he is super picky and was already focused on something else when I first showed him. But once I caught his interest he was very quick to figure out how the tools work. My son is a bit autistic and he often can become easily frustrated if he doesn't pick things up right away. But this did not frustrate him one bit. I didn't initially have the three required AA batteries for the drill but it also comes with a screwdriver head with different bits for it that work both in the manual handle and the drill. So batteries aren't required to enjoy it immediately out of the box. It sucks getting a toy that is useless because it needs batteries. So having the screw driver head was good for him to immediately enjoy. Now I wish the drill had two speeds. What it does now along with one faster speed would have been nice. But it's fine I suppose. I should say though that manual is easily faster than the drill Oh and the box is great for storage. Just standard cardboard but no tabby things that easily rip after many uses. It opens up laying down, similar to a pizza box. So it should hold up if it doesn't destroyed by my boys. Who am I kidding, it’ll get wrecked somehow eventually, but for for now it works just fine.
