Wish we'd had these during last power outage
We had no power for 4 days and bought these afterwards to be prepared for the next one. The only thing that could be better is that there is only one brightness level. True, you can lower the thing (don't know what it's called) to get less light, but it will still use the same amount of battery power. No idea yet about longeivity of the lantern or the batteries. Will report back after the next power outage. ;)

No water resistance/proofing whatsoever on these "outdoor" lanterns. Poor quality workmanship.
These are well-reviewed and were a lightning deal, so I picked up a 4-pack. In theory these are great little lanterns: Reasonably bright, compact, and their on/off action is, let's face it, cool. Plus they come with alkaline batteries, not the zinc-carbon cells you sometimes get in this sort of thing. However, they seem to fall under the adage "you get what you pay for". Out of the box all 4 of mine worked great. I was quite pleased with the purchase. But about 30 minutes later -- after not having touched them -- one of the lanterns wouldn't light. I tried other batteries, and no luck. Since it wasn't working anyhow, I decided to take it apart for the purposes of making a YouTube video. Here's what I found: - There are 3 circuit boards supporting the LEDs inside the clear section. The traces on the boards are of extremely poor quality. At points there is no continuity on the tracks (presumably due to failed etching) and jumpers were soldered on at the factory as replacement paths. - The quality of the soldering is incredibly poor. Dry joints, half-full pads, awkward gaps. Just bad. - The problem with the failed lantern was in the contact switch that gets depressed when the lantern is closed. The actual switch was faulty, and tapping on it got the LEDs to illuminate briefly. I'll admit that I could have just received a bad copy (though I doubt it due to the quantity and quality of the problems). However, these last two points are generally true, as they're inherent to the design: - The top part of the lanterns slides up and down smoothly, and with a comfortable amount of friction. However, that's accomplished by having O-rings pinched between two rails on the bottom section and a tab of plastic on the top section. There was already wear on those O-rings on the lantern that I inspected, even though it was pretty much brand new. I can't imagine those O-rings lasting long. (Take a taught rubber band and rub it against the edge of a table.. Same idea.) - But perhaps worst of all is that these are sold as "outdoor" "camping" lanterns. That's well and good if you're using them in Arizona or New Mexico, because there is NO attempt at waterproofing at all. Any rain is just going right inside the base to corrode the already poor connections within. Like I said, the one I opened up may have been a fluke of bad QA/QC. However, the fact that these are sold as "outdoor" is in my opinion worthy of a one-star review. "Outdoor" implies at least some level of water resistance; As far as I can see that would be the only factor differentiating an LED lantern between indoor and outdoor use. Hence the product doesn't meet the expectations set by the manufacturer. (Don't get me wrong, if it were waterproof I'd still give it a bad review for the terrible build quality.) If you want to keep these around at emergency lights for blackouts (which is what I'm doing), then I suppose they're fine. One out of the four of them is bound to work during a power failure. I just wouldn't bet on all 4 in a pinch, based upon what I've seen. As a postscript, I'm baffled that these have 900+ reviews at the time I'm writing this with absolutely no 2- and 1-star reviews (other than mine, of course). Even highly-regarded, high-quality products from reputable firms have at least a few bad reviews out of 900. I'm not saying there's anything going on here, but that just seems too good to be true from where I'm sitting. (Seriously, pick any product on Amazon that you think is of impeccable quality and has more than 900 reviews. You'll find at least a few bad ones.)

Very nice!
Good light during power outages (alas, more and more frequent). I like that you pull up to turn on and push down to turn off. Good price. For us 4 units is more than enough. This has the inconvenience of using la disposable batteries but all rechargeable ones have lower lumens (light intensity) and don’t last nearly as long — by a huge factor. You don’t want your rechargeable battery to run out just when you need it! Highly recommend.

THE BEST TOOL FOR POWER OUTAGES
This is such a simple item but so crucial when you need it. I have tried many other lanterns that are either not bright enough or to big and cumbersome to use when you are hit with another power outage. I’m in the Forrest and I need tools that work, that are light,!bright and reliable. TJIS IS THE BEST IVE FOUND on price, illumination, and function You can’t go wrong with these!

Love these
I bought them twice and have them all over the house. The bulb in the garage light blew out. No problem! I keep one by the door. One in each bedroom, one in my closet because the clothes block the light, one by the freezer in the garage so I can see what is in there, one in the car, my husbands shop and I have given one to my son and one to my sister in law. I may buy more for hurricane season.

Love these lights
People may buy these for camping or other outdoor activities, but we bought them because of the number of power outages we experienced in California with all the storms. After going through tons of candles, these lights were a godsend. Easy to open with bright instant light! The handle is perfect for moving the lights from room to room. And they are small so store easily for the next time we need them.

Sturdy non plastic lamp
I bought these for my elderly parents in law during a power cut when they lost light, heating and cooking. Candles were too much of a fire hazard. Hopefully when they have another power cut these will help light each room. They have a compartment in the top to store the batteries when not needed which is very helpful and they close down to a very manageable size to store. They are metal and not plastic and so feel sturdy when unscrewing the battery compartment etc. I liked them so much I have ordered some for myself and now my mother wants some too.

Great quality
These are just what I was looking for and the space in the top is perfect to hold extra batteries. I've never been so excited for a power failure in my whole life. These light up a whole room and are way safer than candles. I'm really happy with this purchase.

All of the batteries provided were dead
The lanterns are bright and lightweight. The batteries included, were dead and they all had to be replaced. That’s 12 AA batteries that were non-functional. So, if the price of these lanterns included the batteries, then you lose money on having to provide your own batteries. It would be fine if they weren’t included, but the assumption was that they are provided and should therefore be functional. Otherwise the lanterns work well.

Need to buy fresh batteries if you are stocking up for emergency needs.
So easy to set up and use. Comes with batteries but I would purchase extra AA batteries. (to amazon screeners: I have never rcvd batteries I have ordered from you. I guess they are a hot item among underpaid workers.) Yes I will edit this once I receive your notice that this won't be posted.
