A nice swimming aid, but all in all a little disappointing
First thing's first, these are pretty good goggles, the tracker does work, and it's helpful when swimming laps, sets, generally normal swim practice. The thing ships in nice boxes, a separate one for the tracker and goggle, and it's highly giftable if you have a swimmer you're trying to gift this to. It looks great coming out of the box and is a bit of an event. I didn't really appreciate that I have to install the tracker in the goggle, but I think the point is that the tracker can be reinstalled in a new pair of goggles. The goggles are equivalent to a nicer TYR, Speedo, or Nike pair, with silicone straps that don't pull the hair (and were pretty narrow but comfortable) and changable nose pieces instead of the kind that can push in to your nose. You get several nose pieces that just slide out of place. I found the ones already in the goggles worked perfectly, but they were easy to swap. The straps were fine for holding a little mp3 player, and had plenty of slack. The tracking device clips into the goggles with two loud clicks, so there's no doubt it's in place. It doesn't move at all, and you can charge it without removing it, and in fact I don't plan to ever remove it unless the goggles fail (even then, I'd just change the strap or nose piece). There's a fairly thick, kinda greasy anti-fog applied, more than I'm used to, in the goggles, and when I installed the tracker I got a huge thumbprint on the anti-fog I had to try to smooth out. As most swimmers know, you try not to touch the inside of new goggles for this very reason, and I was very annoyed that my expensive goggles were smudged, almost by design, for no reason. All that aside, it was fun to swim with these. Setup in the app was easy, but the app takes a long time to start each time. Once you're setup you need to tell it where the pool is (no good reason for this except to sell the data) and the length of the pool. I have a pretty bad astigmatism and the readout is very easy for me to read. You have to deliberately look to the left to see the number (the position of which is adjustable in the app). You lose a little of your view to the left, but it's actually not a distraction when you swim because it's way over to the left, but it's still very easy to see whenever you want. While swimming, I noticed the tracker corrects itself. If it thinks you did a flip turn, but you are resting, it fixes it. If it thinks you're resting but you continued your set a little slowly, it corrects it. It does make mistakes, but rarely. So long as you're finishing your length of the pool, it will know your distance. I appreciate that it tells me how long I've been swimming, the actual time of day, and when resting how long I've been resting. It's gentle encouragement to keep swimming. You also obviously get how many laps you have swam (lengths of the pool, not laps, are reported). I can swim a 500 or a mile without debating how many laps I've done when I'm at 16 or 20, which is particularly great as I listen to music when I swim. It's a total game changer for me. When you are done swimming, you hit the single button on the outside of the goggle and an amber light blinks for a few minutes, when the tracker is trying to pair with your phone. All you have to do is open the app, and it should transfer the swim data. The phone app takes so long to open this can be annoying, holding your phone right out of the pools, dripping everywhere, so I try to open the app before I swim. I've had mixed results getting the goggles to actually transfer data, but for me, just knowing how long and far I swam during my workout is good enough. The app clearly needs some work. This is only a three star product because it is obviously very overpriced for a waterproof accelerometer and nice goggles. I like it, and I use it, but the value isn't there. I hope when the company takes off they lower the price quite a lot, because the size and limited scope of what this does is perfect for a lot of swimmers, and it's an easy to use device.

Counts laps
Bought these 3/4 a year ago. So far have logged over 150 miles I the pool with them, both a 25 yard and 50 meter pool. I'd give them 3.5 to 4 stars. They are fairly actuate, sometimes when the battery gets low or I make a funky move in the water it will think I started a new lap but its been rare especially after the firmware updates. I could get about 4 miles over a few stops at the pool during a week without charging them. I saw some reviews of folks complaining they restart the lap counter when you take a break which is true but if you watch the screen for a bit it will show total laps, stopping for a break won't affect total laps. It only stops counting when you shut them off. I'd rate them higher if the googles were less susceptible to scratching and and staining from the chlorine. I've replaced just the googles themselves which cost $30 thus far. It is nice you can replace just the googles though. Really the only thing they are good for is splits times, laps and total time. That's all I need really I zone out and loose count and these help me keep track and keep me more aggressive on my split times

Excellent, revolutionary training tool!
I am a full time swim coach with 28 years of experience at every level, including Olympic Trials. My athletes train with the Finis Smart Goggle and we love it! It keeps track of the swimmer's laps, and most importantly the individual lap splits and running time of every swim within a set. The goggle display shows the swimmer how fast they are going, giving crucial feedback on speed and pacing. If we want to swim a 200 or 500 and even or negative split, this provides instant feedback. If we are sprinting a 75, they can see each 25 as they race. The swimmer can make effort and race pattern adjustments to go faster and achieve goal pace in real time. This improves focus, training, pacing and fitness. Instead of waiting to get the time after a swim, the swimmer knows as it's happening. Also for large training groups of swimmers, now they don't have to rely on the coach to get their splits. They know them already. For the coach, we can never get all the swimmers splits at once, so now the swimmers can ALL get their times and splits ON EVERY REPEAT within each set The software records the training data from each practice onto the app, where both the athlete and the coach can access it and track it for improvements. I think this is the next generation in swim training technology. For any swimmer or tri athlete looking to make serious improvements, or any coach seeking the same for groups, this product is a MUST. Get a pair now.

sleek fit, easy to use
These goggles are fantastic! I have a hard time getting goggles to fit my narrow face. But, there were many nose bridge options that were easy to switch and I was able to get a comfortable, leak-free fit. I like the slim design. These goggles don't feel bulky, they feel like regular goggles. I like the removable chip. You can use it for indoor or outdoor goggles. Or when your goggles need to be replaced, you just switch the chip and you don't have to buy an entirely new system. The battery life is pretty good and seemed to last at least 4 swims (of just over an hour each). You can adjust where to put the display to keep the data just in sight, but not distracting. The app is very easy to use and gives you plenty of data. It was fairly accurate as far as the timing and the distance. I swam a few times with my wristwatch to compare. It's so nice not to swim with a watch and not have to be as reliant on the pool clock (sometimes there isn't one or I can't see it very well). These goggles are awesome!

Pretty Good
Works well. Goggles are good. Level of information displayed (and captured) is a bit basic. e.g. stroke rate but no access to a count (must be available to system). Should be more options & more display options really. Main immediate improvement would be to create an option of this for persistent lefties - ie. the unit mounted in the right eye. About 10% of customers would thank you for this as it would obscure less of our most useful vision.
