Seems less clog-prone than the variable drip rate heads.

unreliable, fails in wide open position
The principle of this type of Gardena emitters is that water flow is restricted by a tiny spherical ball. As water pressure and flow are applied, the ball seats tightly against the valve seat. The ball valve seat has just enough clearance that a tiny flow is allowed through the gap between the ball and the seat. In principle it's a good design, but all too frequently soil particles or insects can get into the emitter through the HUGE 3 mm diameter opening and get wedged between the ball and the seat. When this occurs, water will flow uncontrollably through a much bigger gap than was designed and you'll know about it by the loud sound of a water jet coming out of the emitter. Instead of the 1/2 gallon/hour of designed flow rate, now you may possibly have a 10 gallons an hour or more. Also, by design, it's supposed to flush out the large particles jamming the ball valve seat, but in practice I found it frequently did not flush out the particles without my intervention, resulting in continued wide open flow. The unit cost of these emitters is almost double those made by others. Installation is a real pain, literally, without Gardena's special installation tool. Yet, despite my complaints, I still use these Gardena emitters because I have very hard water and the mineral deposits will clog up most other types of emitters in a few months of use. With these Gardena emitters, if they fail, they'd fail in the open flow position, so at least my plants wouldn't die of thirst. With other emitters if they fail, the flow will be restricted until there is no flow and the plant may die.

Simple, reliable, and they work
These are much better than the variable-rate Gardena drippers that they are replacing. As the tempertaure changed, my old drippers flow rate would change and I had to keep adjusting them. These ones drip at a constant rate whatever the weather. I should have bought them years ago!
