The automatic leveling flanges allow you to hold the housing securely in place with one hand while driving nails with the other. The hangers of the H99T fit onto the T-bar spline of a suspended ceiling system, and may be permanently secured with optional TB7 T-bar clips. Halo also makes it easy to work in confined spaces. To install in joist spans of less than 12 inches, simply collapse the hanger bars then bend and break them along the score lines--no tools needed. The bars can also be removed and repositioned on the opposite side of the frame if you need to mount the unit at 90 degrees to the original configuration. Wiring is a breeze with Halo's patented Slide-N-Side wiring system, which allows wiring outside the junction box. The H99T, with its small, four-inch aperture, is the perfect solution for discreet accent or task lighting, and is available with a variety of trim styles (sold separately). Perfect for existing Walls & Ceilings!
As a professional painter, it's all about the Lighting! I have installed hundreds of recess lights and these cans work Great for any remodel, or where you just need to add more lighting without looking at an unsightly fixture. Who doesn't love nice cans?! Just be conscious of joist/stud locations and as to which direction to align the fixture. The extension arm that goes up into the wall/ceiling cavity is sizable, not small by any means, so be mindful of how you wish to situate it. The metal arm does have some give to it so you may be able to manipulate it enough if space is tight. Allow PLENTY of wiring as you don't want to have "just" enough and then realize you'll need to shove the fixture in a direction away from where your wires are, and then not have enough. As Chris Farley said in Tommy Boy..."I know from personal experience!" When drilling your hole to insert the fixture, size Does matter! I went 4-1/8" with a hole saw on my drill for these (wear a mask and cover your surroundings...LOTS of dust!) Once you wire and get these inserted, set the tension clips with a wide, flat-head screwdriver and a hammer or mallet...you don't need to smack them hard, but be firm, and the clips will slip into there resting slot as required. Otherwise, the fixture may sag on a particular side, and aesthetically, that doesn't look good. Take your time, and these will work great! I use 4" LED recess lights from Sunco, bought here on Amazon. High quality, very affordable, plenty of options...Now, let there be light!

I have installed 18 units NBD, butThis last Batch of 4 had Spring clip issues. Sill buy these!
I wanted to edit my 1st, somewhat crass review of the last order of 4 halo cans I received. Yes I returned this particular order of 4 cans, but I have installed the same new cans and the spring clips worked just fine, so the issues I had was a fluke . I have installed over 18 +4 of these retro fit 4” cans in my home and I absolutely love the dramatic lighting in my halls and bathrooms, also love the 5” cans in my kitchen too... This 4” can when used with a par 20 led spot is unbelievable ! So much better than the newer halo shallow LED disks that are more lately offered... The new offerings are glaring and awful, may as well be a bare lightbulb stuck to the ceiling,! The newer (non recessed can type)halo led disks type models produce offensive off axis glare, that I do not like. These traditional halo cans, when used w PAR20 led spots, produce THE BEST highly dramatic non glaring light, that You will love. The deep black cone in the trim rings accentuates the dramatic non-glaring, “mysterious source of propagation your looking for... With a recessed can / & dark trim ring cone and a LED PAR20 spot, this can will deliver what your really looking out of a recessed lighting fixture... Drama! You don’t want or need to see where the light is coming from, and shadows on the upper walls is a good thing, most times.... So please don’t kid yourself with the newer LED discs fixtures, the off axis glare is atrocious! Yes I had a problem with a small number of these retrofit cans, but in the long run this is the best way to go if you want the best Lighting! Use par 20 LED spot lamps with dark inner cones on the trim rings, I recommend 3000 K LED color temp. Just FYI from a theatrical lighting designer whom is happy with this product more than the newer stuff.

Installs easier than reviews made it sound lik
I was able to install these just find. There are 4 legs that press against the wallbaord. The problem I think people are having is that the do not naturally lock into place. You have to use a screw driver or something to push the leg up, once it has been extended. The problem I had was there there was some strange padding all over them. So it was hard to get the screw driver to catch on the notch that appears to be designed to accept someone pushing up on it. I didn't read any directions, so know knows how one is supposed to install it. I really didnt like the wire connectors that came with it. One of my leads didn't seat properly into it, so I had to take the housing down and redo the wiring. Once its mounted to the ceiling, its hard to unlock the legs. I used some pliers to pull down the legs to unlock them. With all the padding on the legs, it was not easy, but I got it done.

Excellent product, read my review concerning the mountin clips
I purchased two 4" housings from amazon because they had them cheaper than the big box stores. I read several complants about the clips being a lousy design but I blame the consumer/installers lack of ability. The clips have an indent that allow a flathead screwdriver to be pressed against and up to secure the housing into place. This requires a bit of muscle and I could see why some people would have an issue. As these housings are airtite and wet location rated, the indent on the clips are covered by a gasket which could be another reason why people are having issues.

Item works fine. Not the responsibility of seller
Item works fine. Not the responsibility of seller, but those crazy little black mounting clips are sometimes a challenge to work with. Amazing nobody's thought of an easier way to secure the item to the ceilings. But item works as described in the end...

Good lights with flush installation
Installed on my kitchen. Good lights with flush installation. Remember you can install these like Christmas lights with one light being connected to the next to limit the amount of wire in your attic. These ceiling lights will hold a A19 bulb without any protrusion.

Works fine once installed
Works fine once installed. Took a star off due to difficulty installing the locking tabs. This needs a redesign. I watched a youtube video and finally figured it out.

Kitchen lighting addition.
I needed to replace a recessed light fixture because of a defective heat sensor, which you can't buy anywhere,.and add two more of the same fixture. I was glad Halo still makes this fixture as it matches my existing 20 year old fixtures.
