Well-made shower valve with integrated on-off and tub spout/shower diverter

The shower valve has two controls: the larger lever controls only water temperature, and the upper lever is on-off/volume control, as well as providing a diverter function that allows you to direct water either to your tub spout or shower head. Water is shut off when the top lever is at the 12 o'clock position; turning to the right sends water to the shower head, and turning to the left sends water to the tub spout. You could instead choose to have the two outputs be a fixed shower head and a hand-shower for shower-only setups. This diverter design is far superior to diverters where there is a button to lift on the tub spout. The thermostatic (temperature) control valve is designed to maintain a constant water temperature, even if cold or hot water is turned on elsewhere in your home. That means you shouldn't get sudden blasts of cold or hot water while you are showering. Our experience is that the water temperature ranges from warm to very hot, and that the valve won't deliver anything close to cold water. This is usually not a problem unless you want a cold shower or need to fill the tub with cold water for some reason. Our plumber initially installed the sleeve for the thermostatic valve upside down; you need to look carefully for, and align, the index mark on the valve sleeve at the 12 o'clock position for correct operation.

Love Hansgrohe

I like everything except how easily it gets spotted from our hard water here in Southern California. But the function, design and everything else is great! I love how it functions. I like the roughing valve that goes in behind it also. I bought another one for the other bathroom too. Only cons were: 1. water spots on the finish easily 2. if you have to take it off, the nylon screws holding the back plate on can get stuck and almost break off. Had to vise grip the threads behind the head and rotate to finish getting the off. make sure you cut them and don't use them at full length. 3. instructions weren't very clear how the diverter single function plastic bushing goes in because the pictures weren't too clear.

Great faucet!

Easy to install especially if you watch the video. I used this faucet along with the matching iBox rough in. I'm not a professional... just a DIY homeowner but this faucet is very straight forward and seems to me that it is more waterproof than a normal faucet. Any spray from the shower has no way to get behind the wall and cause problems. The faucet itself works well. I took the collar out to allow both the handheld and the rainhead to operate simultaneously. I would highly recommend this faucet to anyone building a new shower or updating an old one.

Their picture doesn't quite reflect reality...the knobs can end up much farther from the wall

As a temperature controller/valve combination, this works great, but you have to be careful with the installation. Our contractor installed the iBox per spec and the knobs ended up way away from the base plate. Since the iBox is plumbed in, against the studs and behind the wallboard, concrete, thin set, and stone/tile/whatever, there's no way to adjust it. The Hansgrohe installation guide actually allows the end of the knobs to be 3-3/4" from the wall surface. My picture (which may or may not be displaying) shows them at 3-3/8"...the flared base is almost 1" away from the baseplate. Worst case, they can be over 1-1/4" away and still be within spec. I really don't like the way it looks. I would have much preferred the knobs to be 1/4 - 1/2" out but I'm completely stuck...

good shower controls

Bought this for a new bathroom last year. We have it so it turns on either the handheld or the shower. I really like it. Plumbers installed everything As another reviewer mentioned, it can stick out far from the wall and still be within spec. So if you are picky you will want to make the necessary adjustments prior to install. Moen shower valves are also notorious for sticking out far from the wall if the plumber doesn't pay attention.
