Great shelf. Terrible shipping.

Shipping terrible. But I loved the product. I Bought 1 last week and it was easy to install and it was actually pretty sturdy and looked great. So I though I’d order another for the room I was redoing. They sent the wrong color so I returned it. They shipped another but when I got it, the corners we cracked and split. The shelf comes in a tight box with no padding so if it was not handled with care, the shelf will easily crack. They need to do a better job at shipping the product.

Love the installation and design... some issues

The easy installation and modern design of this shelf is great but be prepared to possibly receive a broken shelf. The second shelf I reordered seemed to be relatively sturdy for the light weight hollow wood material it’s made of. The first shelf however, arrived broken and the material didn’t seem as sturdy. The corner was chipped and material just wanted to keep cracking, there was also a huge dent on the front ledge. Both packages came in a larger box with only one piece of paper to protect the actual shelf, but the second somehow managed better. Overall I really like the shelf it’s not the most expensive material but it’s lightweight and allows for the less damaging hanging installation. Definitely worth the money if it comes in tact the first time.

Easy Installation

This was the second shelf I ordered. The first arrived fairly badly damaged. It appeared to have been either dropped or thrown by the shipping carrier. Customer Service was very good and refunded my credit card within 2 or 3 days and asked me to throw away the damaged shelf. The shelf itself is very easy to install. It took less than 10 minutes for mexample to sink the hardware into the drywall, hang the shelf, and then put things on it. It's been 36 hours since the install and the shelf seems to be very sturdily affixed to the wall. The materials the shelf is made of seem a bit cheap and I'm not surprised it would break easily during shipping. My suggestion to the shipper would be to pack plenty of padding into the carton the shelf is shipped in. This shelf arrived undamaged, but I think it had more to do with luck than anything else. The packaged shelf was put into an Amazon shipping carton with no protection. My rating of 4 stars breaks down like this; the shelf itself gets 3 stars. For the ease of installation and fantastic and friendly customer service and extra star was awarded for a total of 4 stars.

Super cute, easy install, packaging subpar

I really love this shelf for apartment living. My apartment only allows nail holes, no screws. I’ve had one hung for a week and have had no issues at all. Took maybe 5 minutes to hang. The ONLY downside is the packaging. The shelves are not protected whatsoever & are not made from sturdy materials, so break very easily during shipment. I originally ordered 2 shelves, 1 came in without damage, the other cracked. I processed a return for the damaged shelf and was sent a replacement, which was also cracked upon receipt. The company would save so much money if they only packaged their product better. High & mighty, please bubble wrap your product!

Make sure walls are completely flat

I liked how easy these shelves are, but it might be worth holding a level against the wall to see if your wall has any bumps or humps on it like my old house does. My wall had a slight hump in the middle of the 36" span, so to compensate, I just pulled the two outside metal brackets out just slightly and that did the trick. It's not as sturdy in this way but they are holding up a few plants no problem. I don't think I'd try to test the actual weight limit advertised though. They do look great.

Excited but…

I was excited to get this to try the larger shelf out but upon receiving the shelf, it arrived damaged. The shelf was shipped as minimal as it can get, no shipping box or protection, just retail packaging alone and some stretch wrap around the exposed portion of the retail box. The front corners and top visually shows a dent and is cracked and broken pieces from the product, despite the packaging looked perfectly intact. It’s light but a good weight. Main material used is plastic with wood grain texture and not the greatest quality since it was already cracked and damaged upon receiving. The concept of the shelf being completely tool-less and easy to to install is nice. I have two I bought in stores and wanted a larger one so I came on here to purchase one. It was not worth the $60. It’s a 50/50 chance of getting a intact shelf or a damage one.

PLEASE DESIGN A DEEPER, STRONGER, WIDER SHELF

These shelves have become a horrible addiction of mine. They are so easy to install, I want them EVERYWHERE! I've been trying to get my wife to install one just to be certain that they are as easy as I think they are to install. Granted, I'm a big guy and even I have run into problems pressing the mounting hardware into the wall completely. However, each time I've gotten stuck I just grabbed a hammer, rubber mallet or book and simply PRESSED on the raised edge of the hardware. No actual hammering has ever been required in the 8-10 shelves I have purchased. My only complaint is that I cant buy a bigger deeper shelf. I understand the limitations in the design and why the shelves are shallow with a low weight capacity...but a guy can wish, right?

Received damaged

The packaging from Hillman was minimal, with no bubble wrapping to absorb impact... This is dissapointing for the price I paid.

Good Looking Shelves

Great price for the item, especially it looks really good! Was very easy to install and my fiance was happy that we didn't have to drill holes into the walls for them. Would definitely buy again if I feel like installing more shelves. Feels quite sturdy but we're keeping it safe at only putting some tealights, a lantern, and plants on the shelves.
