Perfect for seeing over our deck railing! Very comfortable
Love them. I was looking for something I could put on my deck that would allow me to see over my new railing (that is much taller than the old one due to building code) and these are perfect. They sit comfortably, like an adirondack chair, but taller, so the railing doesn't block our view. I was afraid they would feel "upright" rather than comfortable, but that isn't an issue, the backrest is very comfortable. They were easy to put together, they are VERY sturdy, and they look like wood that has been painted black, which is exactly what I wanted. I can't really come up with a negative - the armrests are even plenty big enough to hold a drink. We are going to look at adding the tete a tete tables in between, which look like they would fit our situation perfectly. We are very happy with what we chose.

Good quality, very narrow
This chair is good and solid. The color is also nice. However, it is a narrow seat. Friends also tried it out and said it was too narrow. Otherwise it is comfortable--nice and upright. I am not buying a second one however.

easy assembly and nice weight so the chair won't slide ...
Realistic wood finish, easy assembly and nice weight so the chair won't slide around. Also, very comfortable. A great chair for our dock.

Mixed review
The quality of the materials is very good. However, the box arrived already opened, with a hole cut in the top, which was a definite red flag. 3 bolts were missing, so I had to scrounge together odds and ends from my workshop. The right arm came pre-assembled backwards, so I had to take it apart and reconfigure it.

We have 4 highwood products and they never disappoint. High quality
We have 4 highwood products and they never disappoint. High quality, reasonable assembly, and great look. I imagine these will last for years to come. Thanks Highwood for great products and great design

Disappointing
Does not come with all of the hardware. I purchased 4 of them and several had either missing screws or has holes that won’t hold the screw. The foot boards have a hole for a stew but didn’t come with any. I would not recommend this product. The only thing I really love is the color!

Decent, depending on what you're expecting
There's no way you'll ever mistake this chair for real wood. It definitely looks and feels like plastic and is heavier than the wooden Adirondack chairs I have. I decided to put it on my upstairs balcony, and I had to bring it up piece by piece because it was simply too heavy to wrangle all three parts in the box. That said, it was actually pretty comfortable once I got it assembled (more on that next) and should stand up to the sun, rain and bird poop better than the wooden patio furniture I have. It will be a nice place to sit and read or watch the hummingbird feeders. I'm fairly proficient at assembling flat-pack furniture, but this proved a bit of a challenge. First off, the flaps were coming open on the wrong end of the box, so I opened it there, not realizing that it wasn't the "up" side and that the instructions and hardware were attached to the flaps at the other end, which was very securely glued shut. After emptying the box, I finally managed to dislodge the foam packing piece at the far end and then discovered what I needed to put it together. Until then, I was wondering whether the hardware had actually been packed with the chair. I'd suggest the manufacturer pay better attention to gluing its packaging shut and/or attach the directions and hardware to one of the pieces, as many others do. The assembly was technically very straightforward, with ten identical bolts--none of the A, B, C, D, E parts that most assemble-yourself furniture has. However, it proved quite a challenge aligning the first several holes so I could actually insert the bolts and tighten them. The back and seat were the hardest (and first); after that, it was easier, but still took longer than I'd expected. If you have someone on hand to hold it for you, that should help. As a one-person job, it wasn't impossible, but with two people it should be considerably easier. It's worth noting that the chair arrived with a small but noticeable scratch on the inside of one of the arms. Not a deal breaker, but for the price, it shouldn't have been there. Some of the "end grain" surfaces are also quite rough. I don't know if it's the nature of the material or if the manufacturer just decided not to sand it more. (At least it won't splinter.) I received this chair free in exchange for a review. Would I pay $300+ for it? No, because I prefer actual wood, which is available for a lot less money. And would I buy this color? No, not only because I prefer lighter wood but mainly because it still looks like fake wood. In white, red or green the chair would have looked better, IMO, because it wouldn't have been trying to masquerade as natural wood. However, if you are going to have plastic furniture, it's nice that this is made from recycled plastic. Three and a half stars. Your results may vary, based on taste and expectations.

Built to last and built for comfort
This is my second Hamilton Adirondack chair, my other being the similar recliner. And I have to say, I remain impressed by the design and the quality of manufacture. No doubt many will share my initial reservations about plastic instead of wood. Yes, this doesn't quite have the "warmth" of wood that I find when seated. That aside, however, the chair more than makes up for that in its visual impact (which is just amazingly close to wood, albeit without the fading that comes over time) and the FAR easier maintenance. If you live in a place with four seasons, you know what the elements take their toll on outdoor wood furniture. These are built to last without the hassle of oiling and covering. Of course, the most important thing with any chair is the comfort that comes when seated. And here again this earns highest marks. Strong back support and a good angle make this a fine choice for hours spent in the yard, enjoying the world going by.
