Broken plug-in when it was opened.

When my grandson received this for Christmas, the cord that plugs it in to charge it was broken. I just found out about this issue. I tried to order a new charging cable but it was to big to plug it into the back of the ligh.

Not really advertised, but each Galaxy Lamp is truly unique!

2022-01-12. Ever since I split my kids up and gave them separate rooms, the little one insisted on a night light. We added glow in the dark stickers to the ceiling and purchased an expensive motorized lamp that projects real star constellations with random shooting stars and the ability to rotate to mimic the real night sky from earth. The lamp lasted just a little over a year before the bulb went and to have the bulb replace cost almost as much as a new unit. This light was replaced with a bunch of other much cheaper and seasonal lighting fixtures, St. Patty's day clover, Easter Egg, July 4th fireworks, Halloween pumpkins, rope lights, net lights, even a mini Christmas tree! Well, when I came across this Night Light Galaxy Lamp, I thought it would be the perfect replacement to get that space theme back. And it did! This Galaxy Lamp is made of PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride), a durable plastic commonly used in plumbing pipe. Judging by the photos of purchasers, the light appears to be randomly textured with partial images of the real moon. If my observation is correct, every Galaxy Lamp would be truly unique. This tidbit is not well advertised (they just note that it makes a unique gift), but if you compare the images provided by customers, you will see that no two reviewers have the same pattern! The lamp is a cordless lamp with a built in rechargeable battery. Requiring about 5 hours for a full charge from empty, it will provide light the entire night on the medium brightness setting. The cord to recharge the battery is not very long at 40 inches (1 metre), and is unique with a 3.5mm plug at one end and a USB-A on the other (so don't lose it, it may be hard to replace). With the rechargeable battery at 300mAh, it's quite small (less than half the capacity of the average 1.5V AA battery) so requiring 5 hours to charge means it's charging at a very slow rate (~5V @ 0.6A). On the bright side, this unit can be used while it's charging, so if you forget to charge it when it's not in use, you can still use it at night, although you may lose favorable positioning and the ability to port it. Powered by LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) inside, it consumes very little energy. The other thing about LED's is that they last forever! LED's boast a lifespan in the region of 50,000 hours of operation. This will easily outlive the rechargeable batteries capabilities, so no worries with regards to a light burning out. The unit comes with a remote and has the ability to cycle through 16 different colors. The light is also touch sensitive, so tapping the ball will also cycle through the different colors. Unfortunately this means that you will most likely change the color unintentionally if your handling it. The unit also comes with a wooden stand that you need to assemble, but it's three identical pieces and you can't really mess it up. Overall I'm really pleased with this lamp and my kid loves it. The price is pretty reasonable for what you get and I think it does make a great and unique gift. The only downfall I see is that there is no built in timer for this light to help preserve or extend battery life. The light is not really needed once the child is asleep and if they do wake up in the middle of the night, a simple 3-second touch will turn it on. In my household the light needs to be charged daily since the battery is being depleted nightly. Not the end of the world, but a bit of a pain. In my experience, rechargeable Li-Ion batteries have a lifespan of about 500 charges, and assuming the battery in this unit is Li-Ion, it means the lifespan of this unit will be about 17 months. Still not a bad investment, but a settable timer could easily have extended the life cycle threefold. But this light doesn't ever truly die. With the ability to function while plugged in, all you really lose is the mobile ability and the unit will need to remain fixed near an outlet until the LED burns out (in about 10 years.) 5 stars, less 1/2 star for the lack of a settable timer, less another 1/2 star for the short charging cord, 4.0 stars overall. At less than 25 bucks for a 12 years of use, it's a no brainer. I love that it's portable, and that it's also touch sensitive and I'd definitely recommend for any galaxy or astronomy loving kid. They seller is correct, it's a pretty cool item for anyone really, and it makes a great gift for all ages!

Looks good but is a bit glitchy

We've had one of these moonlights before, a different brand but similar functionality and remote. That one died after a little under a year so I decided to give this one a go. These are my daughter's favorite night lights. This one works pretty much the same except for the fact that all you need to do is bump it to change the color. |On the old one, you had to tap a specific spot on the bottom. Because of this it almost flickers while holding it. If left on the stand and used with the remote it works fine. If held and played with, it flickers a lot and feels like maybe there's some loose wiring in it.

Nice

The packaging is very basic. The build quality is not bad. The remote works, but it feels cheap. It looks and feels like the remotes that come with the cheap LED string lights at the big box store. It is the kind that will develop cracks around the buttons under moderate to heavy use. As soon as I turned the lamp on, "NICE" was what came out of my mouth. Please take a look at the pictures I took with my phone. Isn't that nice? In fact, it looks better than the pictures on the product page. As another reviewer said, it is not very bright. It is perfectly okay for my daughter though. She really likes this lamp.

Very cool glow.

The media could not be loaded. Himalyan Glow Moon Kids Night Light Galaxy Lamp with 16 Colors LED, Touch & Remote Control, Wooden Stand, Unique Gift- This light is super cool. This has really grown on me since I got it. It’s just very unique looking and hard to take your eyes off of. I like that it gets bright enough to really stand out but not so bright that you can’t see the design on the ball. The battery lasts for a while too though I haven’t fully let it run out all the way. Pros- Awesome light show to watch. Remote control. I like the ability to adjust the lighting though I honestly usually leave it in the same setting. Charges quickly. Highly giftable. I’ve had so many people ask me where I’ve gotten this that it. I think it works as a gift very well and also is reasonably priced. Cons- I really can’t find much to dislike about this. If anything the cord is a little short so depending on where I put the stand I have to take the ball off charge it and place it back on the display. All in all, I definitely am a big fan of this product. I do think it’s pretty unique looking and also fairly priced. I would gift this and I like that it works as a gift for people that are generally hard to shop for. This is a good secret Santa-type gift at my office. It kind of transcends age groups too.

Got a faulty one.

This is my third moon style lamp, but this one is faulty. On the slightest bump, it lights up and won't turn off by touch, so I have to find and use the remote every time I set something down on my nightstand to turn this off. The purple galaxy style paint job is pretty, though it doesn't show light through in all the colors as the white ones do.

Remote doesn't work

This is glitchy and defective. The remote doesn't work unless you unplug and plug the unit back in. After about 1 minute, the remote doesn't respond so you can't change the colors. It's relatively pleasant to look at but it doesn't operate without the remote. Too bad.
