Excellent tool for tight places
There has got to be a better way to change directions than very stiff buttons that can easily pinch the fingers (ouch).

Tool Great!!! Instructions Suck!!!
OK... Good value and quality. Great starter kit for the weekend mechanic, Dad's with kids who have old cars and guys with those mechanically-challenged friends. The impact works well and will suffice for the majority of unprofessional mechanics, like me. Used it to remove lug nuts on trailer that hasn't been touched for years... easy peasy. Using it with a pancake type compressor. Had it set at 100psi. Perhaps something tougher to ratchet would require me turning up the supply pressure. Will see. The ratchet wrench is not impact. No biggie. Some complain here that it doesn't have the torque power. But that isn't what it's intended for. If you put a wrench on a nut and have to grunt, grit your teeth and white-knuckle it in order to loosen it... don't expect this wrench to start that job. But it is for many, many of those bolts/nuts that we work on that aren't that bad. And there-in is the time saving nicety of this wrench. Also, many of those nuts/bolts are in spaces that you can fit a ratchet wrench on but have no room to spin the handle. So, WHY FOUR STARS??? Well...it was a bit frustrating to have terrible instructions! Most of the customers here. like myself, want a quality tool at a fair price. We got it. But it would be nice to know something about it. One of the questions here was, "How to get the protective cover off the inlet of the Impact wrench"?? The guy is right. There wasn't a word about it. I fiddled with mine until I finally just gave it a pry with the screwdriver. Would have been nice to know of I was breaking anything important. ALSO, no instructions about oil?? Really? How much oil should one put in a new air impact wrench?? No word. The drawings depicting a grease-gun pointing to an area of the wrench was worthless. If you never owned one of these, the instructions were useless. My thanks to fellow Amazonians and YouTube for helping with the details. ALSO, you will need to order extra 1/4" quick-couplers. Yeh, two of the pictures show the tools laid out on a nice garage towel ready to give you warm fuzzies dealing with all those nasty rusted bolts. Well, the pic has the adapters and these tools don't. So get some with your order. And while you're at it, buy the tool oil...you'll find out here later how much to put in.

Weak impact/ improvment
For some reason this new impact doesn't hit as hard as my old one. The ratchet is fine but the impact is weak. Very disapointed. Since i first wrote this review, i have improved the quality of the pressure switch on my compressor. Now instead of a weak working pressure (under 1000p.s.i.) i now have a higher pressure more like a modern car shop. Around the 120p.s.i. range. Now i am seeing better results with my impact. Much better.

1973 nascar
This is the second 231 ingersoll i have bought. The first one i bought over 30 years ago a d just now had to replace. So needless to say, it was another 231. Apparently they are up to revision g. Which does have a nice grip and is much quieter than first edition 231.

I wish I would have gotten air tools years ago!
I'm an average shade tree mechanic and have been struggling with my own car repairs for years (maybe a few decades). Bolts are by far my worst enemy when it comes to old car repair. My parents gave me an old compressor so I thought I would get a few air tools to see what the fuss was about. After a bit of work getting the proper connectors, hose, oil, grease, and impact sockets I finally put it to the test with a lugnut on my 2004 Nissan Titan. With one pull of the trigger the lug nut spun off in less than a second. I was convinced and got to work replacing the front struts. There are few bolts it won't break free. It did have a hard time with the lower strut bolt that seemed to be frozen in place with tension from the spring but with a bit of work it eventually took it off. I am convinced I would have spent hours working on it with my usual socket and wrench. The only problem is it's a bit big to get into tighter areas of the truck. I also picked up an air wrench but it doesn't have the same effect on bolts that an impact does so I will probably but the 3/8 inch impact wrench next so I can fit it into tighter places.

Works as intended`
I work in IT, but god damn if i'm not a sweaty macho mechanic cursing rounded off nuts every time I pop these bad boys onto the air hoses for the 6 month seasonal tire change. Every pull of the trigger i feel 6" taller and 6" longer. The buzz of the pneumatic is almost as satisfying as the brrrt of an A-10 warthog strafing Iraqi tank platoons. GO 'MERICA!

Does the job- Excellent value
The impact wrench does its job perfectly. It is very well made and very effective. As a tool, it is likely to be with me for a long, long time. I cannot see a need for anything bigger for working on cars and light trucks. (10/10) The air ratchet is another story. It looks well built, but it is not very effective at removing tight bolts. This tool will be replaced in my tool kit. But it is not totally useless; I do use it, but is not something I would recommend to a friend (6/10). overall the kit is excellent value.

No connector for hose
The tools did not come with a connector to connect to an air inlet hose. I have tried everywhere to find one, even Amazon and have gotten the wrong ones. I tried calling their customer service but they said any hardware store should have one. I have been to 3 stores and still no luck. I guess it makes a great paper weight.

Best money ever spent
I bought this impact for heavy use in welding/fab shop. Ive used it for over 8 months now. Very high quality, as expected with Ingersol Rand. I regularly oil it before every shift, and works like a charm. It also takes a lot of abuse as well. Only thing keeping it from full 5 stars is that the rubber grip came off recently, and wont stay on. I honestly like it better without it. For 125 bucks, it is definitely worth the money. Would recommend you register it online for the one year warranty ingersol rand offers for it.

works great! (Did for a while)
probably the best you can buy in this price range Update - After a few months of use power is gone. Very weak. Have to break a lot by hand now.
