Sanding backer plate not included
Full disclosure, I have not used this sander yet for the job I purchased it for, which is wet-sanding the oxidized hull gelcoat on a new-to-me sailboat. I have other random orbit sanders, but needed a pneumatic sander to use for wet work. The "in-the-box" information on the product listing is unclear. The "sander" does come with a backing disk, but it appears to be intended for use with a wool buffing bonnet or something similar to that. Fortunately, I selected the choice that included a "6 inch velcro face sanding pad" for a few extra bucks. Note that if you want to use velcro sanding disks, you'll either need to by an adhesive hook-and-loop disk to stick on the included backer plate, or select the option that includes the additional sanding pad.

Good But Not Great Sander
I bought this model for use in woodworking because it has dust collection. I am a retired auto mechanic and have had great experience in the past with IR tools. This one somewhat disappoints me as there Is so much plastic. If you don't need the dust collection option I would consider one of the traditional DA sanders, although they are heavier they are also built better and will last. I also have an electric 5" RO sander (yellow) which is at least 10 years old and still works well. I like air tools, have a large compressor and thought this would be ideal for my situation. It is much quieter than the electric one but the dust collection doesn't work as well as the electric sander which has 8 holes and a larger vacuum port. Also it is not easy to find 6" PSA paper with 6 holes unless you buy 100 count packs of each grit you want. You can also buy a hook & loop pad for this sander though and H&L paper is readily available. I do like that it doesn't require oil like most pneumatic tools, it is light and does seem to have a lot of power. There are a lot of new features on this tool and I like it but just expected better quality from IR. If you are buying for woodworking like me the electric ones may be a better option. This tool needs 8cfm minimum with 12cfm needed under load. My compressor is capable of 19cfm but still runs nearly half the time I am sanding. I don't think that is very economical compared to a 3 amp electric model. Use in a body shop would be a totally different story, electric tools don't seem to last under that environment and this would be ideal considering it's light weight and auto shops always have large compressors running all day anyway. Great peforming tool!
This sander was a birthday gift for my friend. He is a tool "junkie"; and, when I was last in his shop, I noticed that his sander was not performing properly. This circumstance was therefore the motivation for my order. In any event, my friend was very happy to get the sander. On the other hand, he had yet to receive the sanding discs which I had ordered at the same time. Quite frankly, the discs had not even shipped yet - a bit of a disappointment if you ask me. In any event, the very next day, he took the sander to the shop. He called me later to tell me how well the sander performed on some of the auto body projects he had going. He also mentioned that he had gotten so used to his poor performing sander that he'd forgotten what was meant by "optimal performance" for such a tool. The new sander brought back to him the proper perspective. In further clarifying his opinion, he mentioned that the sander was easy to operate, comfortable to hold, and made his projects go a lot faster. He also said that detail work was not too difficult despite the six inch discs. All in all, he was very happy with my selection.

aggressive sander!
Let me start by saying that I have never been really fond of aggressive sanders... I am a hutchins kind of guy who likes that nice smooth feel... HOWEVER, that nice smooth feeling sander that I love is not practical in all instances! For example, getting body work done quickly. I paint Helicopters, and we are ALWAYS under the gun. Most recently, we were told that the job we were supposed to have for 12 days was needed in 8, so we had to push extra hard. This sander can do no wrong with that! It works as well as the $250 snap-on, the National Detroit, the Dynabride, but if I was going to offer any kind of advice... The small body enables the sanding pad to get into some harder to reach places that other sanders won't be able to reach. IF you are not going to hook it up to a vacuum attachment, buy a cheap pad that you won't mind chewing up around screws and rivets! It is what I did, and I am glad that I did.. Someday I might be able to use this with a vacuum... (Hey, a man can dream, right???

Excellent DA Small Exception read review
Excellent power and very quiet and lite. Only issue as others have pointed out is the exhaust pipe as an attachment and is right next to the hose inlet and your hand and is easily knock off. And is some what in the way.

Could have been 5 stars
It’s really smooth and low vibration and maintains its power and it’s quiet...the one thing I didn’t like was it’s impossible to take off the pad pad after installing it because it’s too close the the motor there’s no gap room to fit the tool that takes it off.

Rubbish
Maybe OK for polishing but absolutely rubbish for sanding no guts

Best sander
This is the most amazing sander, I love it. Used it lots but most recently I stripped and painted my F-350 super crew, I have a couple of other sanders but this one takes the work out of sanding.

fonctionne bien
fonctionne bien mais tourne pas aussi vite que j'aurais aimer, me semble manquer de force mais facile à utiliser, et efficace quand même

Check the specs! 15.5 CFM, NOT 8 CFM.
Description is wrong. Returned as the item consumes 15.5 CFM under load, not 8 CFM. It uses a lot of air, and it won’t be useful if your air compressor can’t keep up. You’ll need a 5 hp compressor as a minimum.
