Right tool for the right job

American-made Ones Were Better

This Taiwanese version will do if you can't find a real one on ebay. Unfortunately the quality has slipped along with American jobs. Shame on a company that touts its American heritage on the box to farm out the manufacturing to the Third World. The jaws are arched, so they don't meet in the middle unless lots of clamping force is used. This makes for a sloppy bend if you are using these on sheet metal. WTF? Can't they get this right? Do the slaves making this stuff even know what it is? Better than most, but not the best. Find an older American pair, and ditch this manufacturer who sold out our bothers.

Not what I was expecting, but works great for what it is

It was difficult to tell by the picture that these have MASSIVE PLATES ON THE ENDS. Also, like other reviews say, they do have a slight angle that makes them touch at the end faster than at the base. Still, they grip pretty hard. Returned, however, since I needed vice grip pliers that didnt have large plates at the end.

Does a good job

Well made, as you'd expect from Irwin, and clamps tight and square just as the manufacturer claims. This is the 8 inch version which was fine for the job I used it for - bending thin sheet steel - as I could get sufficient leverage on it; if you are intending to bend anything more substantial you will need something larger. Of course if your need is simply for a tool to grip metal sheet then this Visegrip will do a good job for you.

Expected better.

Expected better from Irwin. Have to keep clipping them back together as the channel that houses the pivot adjustment bar is not long enough. Not critical but annoying.

Bent

The vice grip handle and mechanism are great, the issue is that the two flat bars for the tips are rounded / bent. So to make a flat seam you have to crank them real tight. When you do this it makes 4 dents in the material where the corners of the flat bars are. Not impressed.

Wrong information: Just one tool in the "2-pack" package

In short: There was ONLY ONE TOOL in the shipment. They admitted the error and accepted my request to return part of the money I paid. BAD overall experience.
