Works better than my old rolling pin for pizza dough

I saw this rolling pin recommended by Wirecutter, and, not having mastered the art of tossing pizza dough, decided to try it out. On my first attempt, I was able roll out the dough for a 16" pan that was large enough, round enough, and of a more uniform thickness than I was able to achieve by tossing or using a standard rolling pin with handles. As others have mentioned, removing the label stuck to the pin took more time and effort than it should have, but not enough to subtract a star from the rating.

Worth the money

I can't believe I waited so long to buy one of these. The extra length is wonderful and makes rolling out dough a breeze. The barcode sticker left a little bit of residue after I peeled it, but it came off with some dish soap and scrubbing with a kitchen rag. After it dried a little I rubbed it down with mineral oil and it was good to go!

Porous surface

Wood that comes in contact with food need to be cleanable. It needs a surface resistant to the adsorption of liquids, oils, and food stuffs. (... with a possible exception of some traditional salad bowls which are expected to take on a protective coating of , for instance, olive oil over time.) A rolling pin should besmooth as silk to the touch and closely grained This rolling pin was either made of coarse, open-pored wood or was poorly finish sanded. I would not have bought it if I held it in my hands first.

No issues! great rolling pin, great value

Great rolling pin for pasta, pastries, or dough of any sort. Unfinished maple is actually the most ideal surface for working with doughs so this rolling pin is fantastic. No need to do anything when you get it. I had no issues with the sticker (which is only a bit larger than a quarter) . Don’t ever typically leave reviews but I make bread and pasta on a weekly basis and almost skipped this pin because of some reviews. Just want to confirm that this pin is rock solid and very high quality for anyone who might be in the same position I was in :)

Great Product!

JK Adams makes high quality wooden kitchen and home products at their factory in Dorset, Vermont. That alone is a good reason to buy this rolling pin, as it supports a small MUSA business. The wood is smooth and nicely shaped and does the job it's intended to do. As far as the comments expressing frustration about the label being hard to remove, I was a bit put off by those and briefly hesitated buying this product. If I didn't already own several JKA items, I may have chosen something else. However, I had no trouble at all removing the label. I don't know if they made a change in the adhesive, or what, but mine peeled off very easily. No broken nails from working at it and no residue left on the wood.

BLUE RIBBON

I got this rolling pin as I began my quest to seriously learn the art of "pie". After many attempts at the perfect crust, this instrument helped to deliver the flakiest butter crust on the nicest peach pie I ever made. It did in fact win me a blue ribbon at the parish picnic! This is so much more controllable than the average roller. I see now why my Mom had simply removed the handles on her rollers. Putting you hand to the actual pin and adjusting your weight on it delivers a better result in terms of thinness of crust. Also, it's a lovely piece of wood, one that can be displayed on pegs as art until needed again. See if your baking won't improve with this. It will.

Quality wasn't Great

We had to sand it down when we got it and after the first wash. I understand having to sand it after washing, maybe, but having it still shaggy when it arrives was disappointing. I had heard really good things about the brand, but maybe the quality or quality control has dropped?

Solid for the price????????

Solid rolling pin and size is just nice...could be a 5 star if label was not pasted on the rolling pin itself, but eventually I removed it without leaving any residue slowly.

Yes, it is great. Made of superb material. Well designed. But really not worth the money as there are similar products that cost much less.
