Each "R" board features sleek edge grain construction, resulting in a modern linear grain pattern. John Boos products are designed to meet the demanding expectations of commercial kitchens, and exceed the highest level of quality and food safety standards. Each board and block is made from sustainably harvested North American hardwoods, and offers a commercial grade cutting surface that protects the sharp edge on fine cutlery. Often imitated, John Boos and Co. is internationally known for its expertise in crafting American hardwoods into products of beauty, durability and function. Simple board care can ensure this heirloom, handcrafted board is a favorite in your kitchen for years to come. Every John Boos Board and Block comes with a food safe natural oil finish that helps protect the wood during transit. Once a month, apply an even coat of NSF Approved John Boos Mystery Oil (sold separately), and allow it to soak in overnight. Repeat this process more often when the board is brand new and “thirsty,” or if you live in a dry, arid climate. John Boos recommends applying John Boos Board Cream (also sold separately) to seal the top of the wood surface after applying the Mystery Oil. A few quick minutes of regular oil application will ensure your new board is properly seasoned, and ready for work! After use, wash board with warm, soapy water (all wooden cutting boards are not dishwasher safe and should not be soaked in water). Since 1887, every genuine John Boos cutting board and butcher block has been proudly made in Effingham, Illinois by skilled craftspeople using time honored techniques. Today, USA made John Boos cutting boards and butcher blocks are used and loved in commercial and home kitchens worldwide.

Great board but after just a couple months it's already showing some cut marks
I really like this board, I do. but I have concerns for the long term. Pros 1. This thing is HUGE, tons of works space, my wife and I can work on this board at the same time cutting vegetables without getting in each others way. 2. It's heavy, that means it stays where you put it, no sliding around on the surface. 3. it looks great. Great color, good grain. 4. Easy to take care of. A quick wipe down, or if I am cutting meats a quick wipe with a damn soapy cloth then just a wet one to remove the soap and it's clean. Once a month hit it with some Boos Butcher Block Oil and a coat of Boos Butcher Block Creaam and it's good to go. Cons 1. It's HUGE. It won't fit in any of my cupboards or cabinets. I store it standing up at the end of my counter. 2. It's heavy. No issues for me but a person of smaller stature might find it really heavy and awkward to move around. 3. I'm about 2 monthis in and I am already starting to see some knife marks in the board. I'm going to have to watch and see how that develops. It may become a concern if it gets worse. This is honestly the first time I've bought more than the 3.99 cutting boards at the store so I don't know if the knife marks are normal on more expensive boards or not.

Amazing board, but perhaps it’s too..
I originally got ATK’s winner Teakhaus board. It was great, but it also 24”x18”x1.5”. Most people will think that’ll be enough but I tend to agree with experts who say But The Biggest Board your counter allows. The only negative about is big it is. Makes it difficult to wash. Other than that, just get JB’s board cream and oil.

Wonderful cutting board...
I have been wanting to get another cutting board this size for quite a while. Finally broke down and took the plunge and ecstatic that I did. It's not just a cutting board, it's a workspace.

Great Cutting Board but...
I love this cutting board- it's exactly what I wanted. With that being said, I think the board should be ready to use right out of the box. Based on the directions, I couldn't tell if it was already treated so ended up treated it again. If I'm spending $100 on a cutting board, I shouldn't have to treat it when its purchased. See below: "A minimum of once a month (depending upon the use and household conditions), apply an even coat of Boos® Mystery Oil to all surfaces of your wood cutting board using a cloth or disposable towel. Allow the Mystery Oil to fully penetrate through the wood fibers overnight, then wipe off any excess oil. Apply additional oil to any visible dry spots or for any other necessary reasons. For additional protection, it is recommended to use Boos Block® Board Cream to seal the top of the wood surface in conjunction to the Mystery Oil. Apply an even coat of the Board Cream using a cloth or disposable towel. Allow the Board Cream to penetrate the wood surface overnight, then wipe off any excess cream. "

You need go be sure to oil and wax this upon arrival and often after that. Otherwise it will crack!
Well, I bought this to replace one that was destroyed in a water leak situation in my home. I wanted something that looked durable, and good quality, and from everything I read, it seemed John Boos was a good quality. well, Now that I have had it for a couple of months, I wanted to report back on the problems. It looks great on arrival, and I did order the oil and wax when I bought the cutting board. I did oil and wax it, and let it set 24 hours to absorb, as instructed, you put oil first, then wait, then add wax after 24 hours. Well, It started to crack I noticed just this month. I'm not sure if this is a defect, or if it just requires more oil and wax more often. I am disappointed, and I am 'doctoring' the board with oil and wax. If worse comes to worse, I will add some wood glue in the crack, and clamp it together so that it will close -- and let it dry that way and then see if I continue to have issues. I'm disappointed -- quite honestly, I didn't expect that this would happen. I have never had a board crack before -- and I've owned less expensive ones in the past that seemed to be more durable. Not sure what the problem is with this one. I. may end up sending it back -- just want to see if the oil and wax will resolve this issue. If not, it may end up back in their shop -- just not sure if a replacement will be any different. Sorry for the remarks, but this is an honest evaluation and review.

Great cutting board
It is very nice It came with a dent in it. I decided against sending it back as was most likely caused by shipping I prefer shopping in person

So far, so good
I've used this board daily since the end of January 2023 after applying mineral oil 3 times before use. It is sturdy, solid, durable and heavy. It has the smallest of wobbles which I don't notice when cutting vegetables. It does not slip or slide easily on my solid surface counter top (a good thing). No warping or splitting so far. I will try and update this post in late summer once we have been through a large change in temperature and humidity.

Great for larger cuts of meat. We use to carve our turkey or brisket. Easy to maintain.
