Excellent safety device
I bought this head rest for my daughter's wheel chair which is a Quickie LX. Attaching the head rest was very simple. I did need to trim about one inch off of the from end of the plastic hand grips in order to attach the device. This was done with a box cutter while the grips were on the handles. A very simple task. Although my daughter has been in a wheel chair for nearly 30 years she only recently started being transported in her chair in a wheel chair van. My concern with that arrangement was the lack of a head restraint if the van were to be struck from the rear. The Karman seems to be an ideal solution. When she is out of the van I remove the head rest from the cross member since she does not need it to hold her head in place. Accordingly the rearward projection of the mechanism is not an issue since I never push the chair with the head rest in place. The device is well made and looks like it will be durable. Fortunately I have not had occasion to see how well it functions as a vehicle crash head rest. Hopefully I never will.

Good solution for wheelchairs needing a headrest
A nice solution for wheelchairs without a high back that come low/across the shoulders and are without any means to support the head when the user needs a headrest. Lightweight but surprisingly sturdy construction with few parts that installed quickly and easily with the supplied wrenches. This offers my mother a place to rest her head back when she happens to doze off during the day. Convenience of having it fold up neatly with the chair is a bonus. Only con is the adjustment post coming out from back of headrest is far too long and should be much shorter to avoid having it interfere with anyone pushing or standing behind the chair. Otherwise, this was exactly what was needed to offer neck support to someone dependent on spending hours in a low-backed wheelchair.

Finally found what I've been looking for, for transport van safety
this headrest was exactly what I've been looking for. Although the handles on the back of the chair where it attaches are very short, I was able to get the headrest on . It is perfect for when she is in her van and needs to support her head, The fact that the head rest is adjustable up and down, forward and back plus pulls out when not in use without having to remove the whole setup is fabulous!! The price is a bargain and a half. Definitely no regrets, Believe me, I am not one to ever write reviews unless the product is a real success, The real test was, that my sister actually liked it and that's a miracle alone.

Provides good head support
This headrest provides good support. It was designed to be easily removable if the chair has to be folded up for transit. This necessitated some compromises in its design and installation. All joints are secured by allen-head screws (wrenches are provided). As such, it is difficult to get the screws tight enough to prevent someone from moving the joints and getting the headrest out of alignment. But it does do what I wanted and I am happy with it.

Poor design.
The Headrest sits too far forward for the occupant to sit upright comfortably. Simultaneously, the horizontal post that the headrest is mounted on projects too far to the rear, threatening the assustant pushing the wheelchair. This is a well engineered accessory that simply doesn't perform its' basic job as intended.

good for safety, meh for comfort
I think would do what its supposed to do in bad situation. I did expect a bit more flexibility in motions forward and back. It forces the neck and head to be perfectly upright. Will not allow for positioning backward for comfort. You will not rest with this item, much less nap.

Takes some personal enigeering to make it fit
This is a reasonably well made headrest and will fit on a transport wheelchair but you have to cut back the handgrops for it to fit. A somewhat different mount designed to handle the handgrips would make this a five star item. My wife really needs the head support and after some trimming on my part I finally was able to make it fit her Drive Transport chair, the model without hand breaks. I actually tired to make this work on three different chairs before resorting to my solution.

Ideal solution for portable, transport wheelchairs!
Finally a headrest for a portable transport type wheelchair. My mother can't hold her head up and is confined to a wheelchair. She has an electric wheelchair but still uses a transport chair, so we were looking for a headrest that could go on her transport chair. Her problem is that her head falls forward, so this headrest alone wasn't the perfect solution, but it gave us what we needed. Then we could attach some Velcro to the back of the headrest and make a strap out of another piece of Velcro with some foam on it that would go around her forehead and hold her head up. I would definitely recommend!

Minus one star for design flaws.
A little tricky to install and the crossbars are just barely wide enough but solid enough once you have it properly installed.
