PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The Kidde Smoke Detector, 9V Battery Powered, Photoelectric Smoke Alarm, Battery Included, model P9050, features photoelectric sensor technology to protect you and your family from the dangers of smoke and fire. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms; Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed in your home. Operating on a single, 9-volt alkaline battery, the smoke detector provides reliable detection of smoke or fire, even during power outages. The fire alarm is easy to install, with no wiring required. To ensure proper installation, the test/silence button will electronically simulate the presence of smoke and cause the 85-decibel alarm to sound. This button can also be used to activate the Hush feature, which silences the smoke alarm unit for approximately 7 minutes in cases of nuisance alarms. A low battery indicator will chirp when it's time to replace the battery. After 10 years, the smoke alarm will need to be disposed of and replaced. UL Certified with a 10-year limited warranty. Meets requirements of UL217, NFPA72, NFPA 101, & FHA. Good Value if it works when you need it to.
Fairly straightforward install. Haven’t had it in service long enough to know whether it eats batteries or not , but I like the spring-loaded friction-fit battery terminals, as opposed to the old-school snap-tight terminals that lock on so tight, they break off the plastic mount when changing the battery. So far, this photo-electric smoke detector passes monthly test button pushes, and no false alarms. Heating with wood, I mounted it next to the 35 year-old ionizing smoke detector, and added a sensitive carbon monoxide monitor to cover all contingencies.

Nice basic smoke detector
It seems like a decent basic smoke detector. It has a photoelectric sensor, which I understand is better for detecting smoldering fires. And it uses a 9v battery, which I much prefer over the pre-installed batteries. It has a small red light that flashes about every minute to let you know it's working. My only complaint is that the smoke detector seemed to fit a little too loosely on the base-plate, which means it could potentially fall after installation if you install on ceiling. The smoke detector itself has a notch on it's underside that can be used for hanging on a wall instead of ceiling, which is exactly what I did.

They work great, but you don't get quite as much battery life.
They signal their battery has run out at a slightly higher voltage than my old ones. It's not that much, I'd say about 10%, but you really need an alkaline in these, the inexpensive carbon zinc batteries, which don't last near as long anyway, won't work very well in these. But I'm very happy with them, I don't think this is very important difference.

Replace battery !!!
Ever so easy to install as well as battery replacement. Long ago developed the habit of replacing detector batteries every year. This year my schedule was overlooked. So, 13 months after purchasing this particular type of unit, the factory-supplied 9v battery died (yes of course at 2 o'clock in the morning). FYI. Specifically acquired this photoelectric device to add another layer of smoke detection. Our home builder-installed ionization detectors. According to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Assoc.) the photoelectric and ionization units, each respectively have the superior ability for either smoldering smoke fire or hot smoke fire detection.

Learned something new
I already had an ionization type smoke alarm in my apartment hallway. The house rules dictated that there must be an alarm in the bedroom. So after a bit of YouTube research I learned that photoelectric alarms detect smoldering fires better and the ionization types are old tech. Hence my decision to get this one. A couple of weeks after installation, it blasted a false alarm. Well, I won't give it any demerits yet. I think it was just some dust floating by. I'll edit this review later if there are any changes in my thought.

Didn't notice that it was already 5 years old when I installed it
All alarms are supposed to be changed every 10 years. I didn't notice until later that the sticker showed it being manufactured in 2017. Thus, it is already half-way through its life cycle. Another product from Amazon required a battery change within months of purchase. So, be on the watch for stale products.

Good value for the money
Needed to replace existing as they were out of date. These were reasonably priced and brand name. I prefer Kidde over unknown brands when it comes to fire protection.

Bought to replace the same smoke alarm
I bought 2 of these to replace the ones I have on 2 floors of my home. My old ones were he same as the ones I purchased and they were over 10 years old. They worked well for the 10 years so why buy anything different. FYI I have a Nest alarm with carbon monoxide detector on the 2nd floor so the carbon monoxide detector is not needed on the other 2 floors. These are an excellent product at a great price. I will be buying them in another 10 years!

tranquillité d'esprit
Un avertisseur d'incendie, c'est le genre d'objet qu'on installe, et sur lequel on compte par après pour faire son travail, sans déranger. C'est exactement ce que j'ai trouvé! Super!
