KidKraft Bead Maze Cube vs. B. Zany Zoo

I was really debating between this and the B. Zany Zoo for my daughter's first birthday and decided to go this route as it is almost half the price. My niece has the B. Zany Zoo so I am very familiar with it but had not seen this in person until it arrived. The B. Zany Zoo is clearly better constructed and bigger. The Kidkraft Bead Maze Cube came with some scratches on it, the pieces wobble a bit, and like mentioned before the corners are a bit sharp (it isn't as bad as other reviewers make it out to be in my opinion though). Even with these imperfections I am happy with our choice of this over the B. Zany Zoo and here is why. I like that there are removable pieces on this one and know my daughter will like that too. I think the KidKraft beadmaze on the top is easier to use and more fun than the bead maze on the B. Zany Zoo which just has colored balls. I also find the top of the B. Zany Zoo to be very busy (although really cute). The sides on both are very similar. I do like the side with the zig zag pegs that fall on the B. Zany Zoo. With all this being said, for the money this is a good toy and I think it will entertain my daughter and teach her new skills. We haven't given it to her yet so I will update the review if for some reason she doesn't like it as much as I think she will.

great buy

We purchased this for our 8 month old. She LOVES this toy. It gets daily use, and there is always something different she is playing with. When her cousins come to visit it seems to be the first toy they play with, its really a nice buy. We shopped around for a while for an activity cube and checked out the other companies, but we chose this one because the price was right, the activities seemed fun, and the design wasn't completely abnoxious as some of the activities cubes were. It has a cute country farm theme to it. The beads are easy enough for an 8 month old, and even the veggies that slide she managed after a few tries. Her favorite is still the windmill and gears, what a cool and educational concept to add. My only issue is minor - the apples on the apple orchard don't stay on the best, so we usually store them inside the box. I was really happy with the cube overall, I was pleased with the price point and the activities they offer.

Fun but some flaws

We have a very busy almost 8 month old and we bought this for him about a month ago when he started pulling to stand on everything. Positives: -wood instead of plastic, which we like -seems durable. Our dude has been pulling up on it for a month and it has withstood all of it. He also stands and shakes it. -lots of fun things to touch and play with. -would work great for a kiddo who is sitting as well as standing. -no batteries! No annoying noises! -you can store small things inside the cube. -great value! Who wants to spend a zillion dollars on something his child might play with for a week? -our dude loves it. Negatives: -pretty lightweight. We put a weighted ball inside our cube so there would be lessof a chance of him pulling the cube onto himself. -the cube itself is small. Our dude is pretty tiny-around 17 lbs and 26 inches at 8 months. He's much bigger than the cube though the activity stuff on the top is a good height for when he is standing. -there are only two little latches that hold the lid on the cube, and they twist. So when the baby is shaking the lid it tends to come loose. We do recommend this to friends and would definitely buy it again.

Fun toy for us.

I purchased this toy about a month ago for my now 9 month old as I liked the many activities on it. It is a bit above her level at the moment, but she does enjoy the farm animal "bead maze." We keep the apples off the tree as well as the tree and barn that fit in the holes on top, because right now she just wants to eat that stuff. I think soon we'll get the apples back out as she seems to be interested now in the shapes. She also likes the maze on the side and making the veggies fall down the slot. I took the advice of another reviewer and purchased corner guards. I would advise others to do the same. The only problem with this toy is that the maze on top does not seem to be securely fastened. The other day it looked like my daughter was going to pull the maze out. I am sure it can easily be fixed if it does happen, so don't let that be a reason not to purchase the toy. All in all a good purchase.

Very pleased

My son always loves bead mazes at the doctors office so i thought it would be a great gift. The ones i was looking at were $200+ which is crazy to spend. When i found this one i was exited for the price but was concerned it would be small... It's a decent size, perfect for my small home. My son loves this toy! He likes to keep his toy cars inside the box (which is great that it doubles as storage). he has now learned to take the top off (the part with the maze) and flip it over so the maze is inside the box and uses it as a seat too. Since i've purchased this he hasn't bothered with any of his other toys except a few special ones. I could probably get rid of all but 4 or 5 things and this maze and he'd never know. Entertains him nearly all day. well crafted, durable and so fun.

Keeps her busy

Our 10 month old really enjoys this toy. She plays with the top bead maze part on it's own & enjoys storing things inside the main box. The house & tree blocks on the top have simply become chew toys and things to put in & out of the box. The design is silly b/c they come off of the top so easy. They havn't been on top as shown since the day she got it but I just consider them to be extra blocks for play. The apples on the side also make good blocks for claping or chewing on. The corners are pointy. She poked herself a few times but nothing serious. IT is a wooden toy & we like that. So far very durable & entertaining.

Disappointed with the quality.

The product was not assembled correctly when it was opened on Christmas morning with a piece of wood not attached and screw's exposed. It had to be fixed before it could be used. Not what you expect from a children's toy! Disappointing.

activity cube - fantastic

This is a bargin and a lovely item which i brought for my 8 month old. It was excellent quality and has 5 different activities to keep my little one busy and im sure it will be used up until she is 2-3 so it is a toy that is well worth spending money on. The only neg is that she can pull it over so i have put books inside to sturdy it and she also leans forward and knocks her head on the corners as they are in line with her head but as she gets bigger this shouldnt be a problem (with this in mind the product maybe suitable for those after 12mths).

The toy is excellent

We have got this toy despite one comment of the user. We love it, it keeps our 7 month daughter busy for some time, it is fun to play and I hope she will love it even more later on. We are very happy with this product, don't understand what the user with 2 stars meant by saying the paint is falling of the wood. Ours is in very good shape. Also, if you want to keep your baby alive with it, put some heavy books or weight inside as the baby keeps pulling the toy which makes it fall over her :) To keep it save we have put 5 KG inside the box, now it is reliable and we can let our daughter to play on her own.

Nice toy

Lovely colourful toy, seems reasonably well made, unfortunately there were a couple of scratches in the paintwork which was a bit disappointing, although not worth the hassle of returning.
