PRODUCT DESCRIPTION KNIPEX Tools has completely redesigned our Lineman’s Pliers series to make them easier to cut with, saving you time and energy. The rivet has been reduced in size and moved closer to the jaws to create an ultra-high leverage design for 25% easier cutting power. Additionally, the recess on the back now has an oval shaped design which works better on thicker, round or oval shaped cable. The design also has created a great way to deburr conduit pipes; open the jaws slightly for a round shape and insert the conduit. This new lineman’s design is not only making this product more competitive in the market but it is going to become the new design to beat! With carded packaging. AMAZON.COM Crimping area below joint (plastic handle model shown; view larger). The Knipex New England-style lineman's pliers feature a high leverage design that requires 40 percent less effort compared to conventional combination pliers. It offers a cable puller in the joint gap and with universal mandrel crimping point below the joint. The cross-hatched serrated gripping zone provides firm gripping and pulling (such as for fencing applications). Other features include a gripping zone below the joint for powerful leverage, long cutting edges for cutting flat cables, a fish tape puller in the joint gap, and a crimping area blow the joint. The cutting edges are induction hardened, with a cutting edge hardness of approximately 64 HRC. These pliers come with comfort grip handles with a wider grip. Fish tape puller (view larger).QUALITY IN EVERY DETAIL Sometimes we give our pliers a really hard time. We try to destroy them to find out what makes them good and long-lasting. Because we don't want to leave anything to chance, we take a long, careful look. The steel Knipex uses is precisely hardened with a maximum of 0.8 percent carbon and defined parts of chromium and vanadium, guaranteeing optimum cutting performance and service life — even though it requires special production and costs a bit more. But our high product demands require this. The rivet of our high-leverage diagonal cutter also has to stand up to a lot of stress. That's why we literally give it backup: we forge it straight onto the pliers. This means extra effort as we have to precision mill the rivet to a few hundredth millimeters. But satisfied users are worth this effort. Knipex also looks closely at the small details. The angles, the sharpness, the hardness, the toughness of the cutting edges. The precision and smooth movement of the joint. The handle design and the finish. We keep reviewing these subjects, we research, we test, and we improve our pliers. ABOUT KNIPEX Headquartered in Wuppertal, Germany, Knipex is an independently-owned family enterprise steeped in tradition and specializing in the manufacturing of high-quality pliers. It all started back in 1882 when C. Gustav Putsch set up his own forge shop in Cronenberg (now a suburb of Wuppertal), and the company is now run by a fourth generation of that family. The world's leading brand in pliers today, Knipex is focused on the performance, service life, and ergonomics of its tools in order to meet the high expectations of professional users. 09 12 240 HIGH-LEVERAGE NEW ENGLAND-STYLE LINESMAN'S PLIERS AT A GLANCE * High transmission ratio for easy cutting * Effective cross-hatched knurled gripping zone in the jaws * Additional serrated gripping zone below the articulated joint for powerful leverage * Cutting edges for soft, hard and ACSR wire * Chrome vanadium heavy-duty steel, forged and oil-hardened See larger image. Nice cutters
Been using these for about a year and a half now as a professional commercial/industrial electrician. They actually work really well. If you work outside, or work in freezers during the summer, they'll rust like anything else, but a bit of oil and some clean up and they're good to go again. Action is smooth right out of the box, and gets even better the more you use them. If they rust they'll tighten up, but as long as you oil them promptly they'll loosen right up again. Heavy enough to use as a hammer when you need to, durable enough to take the abuse. As with all tools though, they wear out over time. The cutting edges on these are very pointy, (they have a very gradual taper leading up to the cutting edge), meaning if you try to cut something really hard, they'll dent or roll over more easily than a comparable set of Kleins. The Klein edge is much more abrupt, with a lot more steel behind the actual cutting edge, so it takes more effort to dent them. I actually had another set of Knipex Linesman pliers, without the fish tape puller and crimper, and the cutting edges on those got dented within a couple months from cutting screws and spring steel wire. If you have to cut screws or hard wire, I'd recommend having a beater set of Kleins around to use instead. These do best on copper and aluminum. Is it worth having two sets of Linesman pliers to cut two different things? I think it probably is. The Knipex pliers will cut 12/2 MC like it's not even there when they're in good shape, and the'll make a clean cut on copper range feeds in one shot without issue. The Kleins, not so much. They take more effort to cut just about everything, but they'll cut a wider variety of materials and take less damage while doing it. The cutters in the picture, as pictured, still cut MC just fine, still cut #1 copper just fine, still work just as they should. They just take a bit more effort to cut with. For the record, the cutting edges on these got messed up from cutting BX (steel armored) cable. They still cut it, they just didn't come out of it unscathed. If you're looking for the best all-around Linesman pliers, I'd recommend the Klein 2000 series Journeyman pliers instead. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0026TFRQ0/ref=emc_b_5_t?th=1 They're about the same price, the cutting edges are more durable (in my usage anyway), they offer all the same features, and believe it or not, on the set I got, the action was just as smooth as the Knipex pliers. I believe Klein puts a bit more effort into their "Journeyman" series, as I also have a set of diagonal cutters from the same series that are extremely smooth right out of the box. All in all, for just cutting copper or aluminum, these are probably the best pliers you can buy. But, if you have a need to cut screws or hard wire, you'd probably be better off with the Kleins.

Little disappointed
I own quite a few of the Knipex cobra and other water pump pliers so when my venerable Klein linesman pliers became worn in the cutting jaws after years of excellent performance I thought I would give Knipex a try for a change. Knipex calls these their 'American Style' linesman pliers in their catalog as a nod to Kleins designs. However my pair came with small slices in the grip insulation and I see that the crimp jaw is not centered. (photos) Not sure if seller has B stock(?) Also surprising is that using only 'handshake' force grip I can pull the Knipex out of my hand vs the Klein's have great torsion and with light pressure they just wont slip. This might have to do with the slickness of the 'comfort grip' on the Knipex. I washed them with detergent to remove any mold release agent but it didn't help much, perhaps in time they will dull and the torsion improve. Additionally the Kleins handles offer more curve which greatly help with slippage. Overall not that impressed with the Knipex so far. This might not be a knock against Knipex so much as a realization of how deep Kleins design & quality is. I believe this is the second redesign of these Knipex lineman's pliers. Also know that the Knipex pliers have VERY sharp edges to the point that I finally* took my dremel to knock them down so as not to shred pockets or scratch surfaces. It was not something that would have gone away with normal wear. Kleins do not exhibit this issue. It's funny sometimes you don't know how good you've got it with the brand you're used to. btw - Kleins are very proud of their 'proprietary' steel mix for their pliers. Holding the two side by side the Kleins have a 'heft' the Knipex lack. *Update: I called Knipex about the crimp not being aligned and they told me to exchange with seller. I did so without incident. New pair had same problem only worse. Contacted Knipex through email instead and included photos of persistent problem. They showed them to their inside 'something-or-other' team and got back to me admitting that my pliers were out of spec. They sent me an RMA form that included a paragraph that I was responsible for shipping BOTH WAYS.(?!) I called them about this, explaining that they released out of spec product into the wild and were now asking me to shoulder the cost of their lack of Q.C. They couldn't have cared less. wow. I'll stick with Knipex water pump pliers as that is their wheelhouse for sure, but any illusions of German excellence has been dispelled and I will be very careful about selecting their other products in the future.

Great pliers by Knipex!
Well, I was using a pair of Husky lineman's pliers that cost me $11 buck way back when I started as an electrical apprentice and they served me well all these years, until I realized I left them in a basement full of junk on a rainy day and I refused to go back to that house for them (crazy home owner)... So I chose to purchase these Knipex lineman's pliers for a lot more money than the Husky's, and boy I have not regretted the decision so far. I've only had them a couple of days, but man they're light, very sharp (maybe 'cause they're still new) making the cutting very easy, they were very well lubricated out of the packaging, the handles are comfortable and grippy, the jaws open a lot wider than Husky's and even Klein's tools. They seem of very good quality and very functional, so here's to hoping they last me a good time. I would definitely recommend these pliers to anyone serious about upgrading their electrical tools.

1st and last pair of lineman pliers for all apprentice & journeyman lineman.
I am a 2nd year apprentice lineman in Florida, I use 9" Kleins everyday to splice, build a ripple, elbows and t bodies. My Kleins are a tank for the beating I have put it through in hot & humid south Florida. But WoW, the craftsmanship, fluid open and close, ease of cutting (even cuts 4/0 insulated) , the extra grip twisting the concentric tails on 25kv cable, nice handles too. You can really feel the quality difference holding Kleins & Knipex. On a deal through Amazon for $41.99 with free shipping. My new favorite go to pliers.

Bom, mas não vale o preço
The media could not be loaded.

better than klein
these are better than klein hands down ive used klein pliers for 12 years and the quality is good, but the precision on the knippex is perfect. the knippex pliers when new handle better than a broken in pair of klein during their "peak", they have more leverage, and a round relief rather than a rectangular one like klein for cutting wire (seems like this should have been a no brainer) 20$+/- more for knippex over klein, it was an easy decision for me, i dont think you'll be disappointed either

Love em
Excellent confort, cuts amazingly well, as for durability it's not good at all. Scrapped them after 1 week of heavy duty electrical work. :( I got to say I also used them to hammer my lock nuts and wtv I usually hammer with my Klein or Milwaukee lineman's pliers, but these knipex ones are no good. You need carry a hammer with you if you want these cuz they won't last. Knipex need to work on the durability on these ones, they really suck in durability.
