PRODUCT DESCRIPTION KNIPEX 90 70 220 Revolving Punch Pliers AMAZON.COM Revolving head with six interchangeable punches (view larger). Designed to punch out holes in leather, textiles, and plastic materials, this pair of revolving punch pliers from Knipex (model 90 70 220) includes six interchangeable punches — 5/64-inch, 3/32-inch, 1/8-inch, 9/64-inch, 5/32-inch, and 13/64-inch diameters. The 8-3/4-inch pliers feature an opening spring and locking lever, red powder coated finish, and oil-hardened tool-grade steel. QUALITY IN EVERY DETAIL Sometimes we give our pliers a really hard time. We try to destroy them to find out what makes them good and long lasting. Because we don't want to leave anything to chance, we take a long, careful look. The steel Knipex uses is precisely hardened with a maximum of 0.8 percent carbon and defined parts of chromium and vanadium, guaranteeing optimum cutting performance and service life — even though it requires special production and costs a bit more. But our high product demands require this. The rivet of our high-leverage diagonal cutter also has to stand up to a lot of stress. That's why we literally give it backup: we forge it straight onto the pliers. This means extra effort as we have to precision mill the rivet to a few hundredth millimeters. But satisfied users are worth this effort. Knipex also looks closely at the small details. The angles, the sharpness, the hardness, the toughness of the cutting edges. The precision and smooth movement of the joint. The handle design and the finish. We keep reviewing these subjects, we research, we test, and we improve our pliers. ABOUT KNIPEX Headquartered in Wuppertal, Germany, Knipex is an independently owned family enterprise steeped in tradition and specializing in the manufacturing of high-quality pliers. It all started back in 1882 when C. Gustav Putsch set up his own forge shop in Cronenberg (now a suburb of Wuppertal), and the company is now run by a fourth generation of that family. The world's leading brand in pliers today, Knipex is focused on the performance, service life, and ergonomics of its tools in order to meet the high expectations of professional users. 90 70 220 REVOLVING PUNCH PLIERS AT A GLANCE * For punching out holes in leather, textiles, and plastic materials * Six interchangeable punches * Opening spring and locking lever * Red powder coated finish * Chrome vanadium heavy-duty steel, forged and oil-hardened

If you want it packaged, pay $5 more for SB version
I had to edit this review once I realized what the problem was: namely that I did not understand the German abbreviation SB" which means the type of package. "SB" = Selbstbedienungsverpackung = "self-service package" usually a cardboard or blister package. I could not see any difference in the Amazon descriptions of the Knipex 90/70/220 and the Knipex SB 90/70/220 except the SB costs $5 more. A google search turned up the explanation after I had done the original review. I was worried when I read two reviews claiming they since their punches had a piece of orange paper stuck in each punch, they had had gotten a used instead of new Knipex and one comment that she had the same concern. If you don't order the SB version, it comes in a too tiny plastic bag that is open at one end, not sealed, with no type of packaging, or insert or anything - just the tool and those orange pieces of paper stuck in the punches. It would be too much of coincidence that Amazon is selling multiple used ones with the same orange paper so I assume that Knipex or Amazon tested out the punch and just left those pieces in the punches and that my Knipex is new not used. I'm glad the other reviewers mentioned the orange paper stuck in the punches or I would have worried. It would be better to take them out before shipping to customers as well as seal or at least close the plastic bag instead of having half the punch stick out of the too small plastic bag. The best would be for Amazon to spell out that if you want this punch looking like it was brand new in the standard blister plastic sealed package like you would see in a store, then you need to order the SB and pay $5 more. I probably would have bought this version anyway but with less worry if I had known the difference. But so far, it seems to work just fine cutting through fabric straps that my wife uses to make purses. I was worried that it might take too much pressure to work it, but she had no problem just squeezing the handle and it made nice neat holes through a double layer. So we will be keeping it. I'm giving it 5 stars despite those strange orange pieces of paper for all the reasons that the other 5 star reviewers gave: looks and feels sturdy, sharp punches, works without needing lots of pressure, etc.

It punches holes
It's not the world's highest functioning or sharpest leather punch, but if you're buying this kind of leather punch, and you're buying it on Amazon, this is about the highest quality you can expect. It will struggle with tougher or thicker leather, but if you're precise and persistent you can still get through it (with an extra try of two). It's a solid choice. Sturdy, well made, and functional. Not perfect, but good enough if you're not a professional.

Knipex 90 and on earth peace, good will toward men.
This is a most useful tool to have! No more worrying if the belt I'm looking at needs to be a size 36 or 38. If it's a little large, great! Get the big one and if it's loose so what - make a hole and it's good to go! And when Thanksgiving has come and gone so now a 36 is too small it's irrelevant because all belts now have that extra inch. Or those extra two inches. Or those extra three inches if that's how it is. Yes - Independence is a beautiful thing. Is this how those men and women that pioneered and persevered through those dark days of hardship once felt when they discovered a new and simple technique to defeat an obstacle in their way? I think maybe yes, probably most certainly. Also important to note - this Knipex is made to last which is essential since there are a lot of nice belts out there to enjoy & friends really appreciate it when you can fix up their fit as well. Everybody has a waist, right? Who knows, maybe one day everyone will have a PLP, (Personal Leather Punch) and we can all come together more happy and free knowing our clothes will always fit... and there will be peace everywhere at last. Punch on.

Inconsistent Manufacturing Precision
When paying for a product that's twice or three times the price of the competition, you expect precision. But this Knipex punch plier model had issues. First plier I ordered had sharp but misaligned cutters. 2nd plier had perfect alignment but one dull cutter. Third plier was misaligned and had one dull cutter. No doubt this punch plier does the job, but I expected hole cutters that are not dulled, or cutters that are aligned perfectly with the brass anvil (not sure what this is called). I purchased other Knipex tools that are precise. Sadly, this isn't one of them.

Withstands Abuse
If you have been frustrated by leather punchers that won't stand up to the torque you put on it, look no further. Common leather punchers withstand between 1 and 3 hole punches in a thick leather belt. Before long, the punches do not line up with the brass plate on the other side. Common punchers aren't built to take the amount of pressure necessary to do its job. This is no common puncher. This Knipex puncher can handle the abuse required for its intended use. There is a unique locking device that firmly holds the wheel in place, allowing perfect wheel alignment with each punch for higher efficiency. If the high price discourages you, think of how many leather punchers you would go through in the many, reliable decades of use that this will provide. This tool was my introduction to Knipex tools, and since then I have bought many more Knipex tools. Read the glowing user reviews of some other Knipex tools. It is difficult to find another brand for any product that has such a positive consumer reception. Knipex tools are a joy to use. Don't throw away your money with a cheap puncher, buy this and you will quickly see after your first punch why Knipex has earned such a lofty reputation. This fine pieces of German engineering is worth every penny and more!

Beautiful tool!
I used Knipex smooth jaw pliers for many years as a mechanic so I jumped at a Knipex leather punch when I saw it. The feel of the tool is rock solid with no concerns for the punch slipping off sideways like my old punch. I have worked with latigo leather thicker than boot soles and the holes stay straight every time. The lock is made to disengage with a slight squeeze and won't flop back in until you are ready. I am thrilled with this tool. Changing punch sizes might be tough on gentle hands until the tool breaks in a little. I have no issues, but I can't do it one handed like I used to.

A well made German product
I didn't go for the cheap China hole punch that gets damaged after a few use. I love the quality of German materials especially the steel that they use. I am giving this as a present for my sister. So far, my sister is happy with it.

Well made tool
This is great. I was skeptical because the lower price tag but I’m very satisfied. I’ve used this to punch holes in 12oz saddle leather and it was a dream.
