PITA to Install, but don't think it was the products fault..

Ok, so I'm not a handyman. I'm good with technology and even breaking apart technology, not so much this kind of stuff though. But at the same time, it's a door knob with a couple of screws. I've fiddled with installing door knobs NP in the past and even from the same brand. I'm leaning more towards it being my door frame opposed to the knob itself, but I'm not 100% positive. Also leaning more towards the house because over all, seems like the over all construction was poor. Notice a lot of stuff not seeming like it's 100% flush/straight/even throughout the house. I removed my old door knob and when I went to remove the plate from the frame, it seemed like it was going to be a chore, so I opted to just leave it in at first and see if the new one would work with the old, even though it'd be mismatched color wise. It did! I then decided that the color difference would eventually drive me nuts, just knowing it was different and probably never actually seeing/noticing it visually. So I opted to try to remove the old one and it was a chore. The screws weren't necessarily stripped, because I ended up using them still with the new plate, but I did have to hold & pull the plate outwards while unscrewing to get them out. I then proceeded to install the provided plate with the provided screws, NP! Went to shut the door and nothing, not latching! Ended up looking around at all the other doors and realized they were all kinda off set and not flush like was happening with my install. With the provided screws, I couldn't get it to offset enough to get it to latch, always seemed to align perfectly with the inner borders, even if I tried to prevent it. I ended up using the smaller screws that my old plate was using and was able to get it to be offset, which resulted with the door finally latching. Now, the door knob doesn't feel like it's 100% flush as it should be. But again, I think it's more/less the doors fault more than the product because I was able to get more and more flush by chipping away at the inner frame of it. Also pretty neat how you didn't have to totally unscrew the long screws in the door knob, but just hold the base and twist the side with lock (typically inner knob) and it split in 2. I do feel like if I were to try hard enough, the door would probably open and probably end up breaking something. But, I didn't install it to prevent someone from breaking down the door as much as I did just to prevent family from entering the doorway it's on and don't see any of them hulking out on it that it won't do. I'd recommend it, just not sure if I'd personally buy it again for this house. But also, don't see me ever replacing another knob here again because of the troubles I had and if I did, definitely not removing the frame plate! lol

Great door knob

This is a very sturdy door knob. I installed on the door to my garage. I can’t believe how easy the door opens and closes now. I’m considering changing the knobs on my other doors to this one.

Great Lock for the house

I love this lock set to keep everything as one lock throughout the house rather than having a key ring that have multiple keys. I initially got this at home depot but learn that amazon carry it and a big plus great price.

Excellent knobs!

These locks are sturdy, easy to install, easy to re-key, and attractive. I have purchased ten of these over the past several years, and have them in my home, my in-laws home, and two rentals. All are exterior doors, with one fully exposed to the elements for three years with no sign of deterioration. I have no complaints.

Nice door knob for the price.

A nice door knob for the price, but product is not as heavy duty as you would expect from Kwikset but again for the price you get what you pay for.

Simple install, and easy re-key

We needed to replace the doorknob on our interior garage door, and wanted to easily match it up with our existing keys. This doorknob was very simple to install, and the SmartKey system made re-keying the lock to our existing Kwikset house keys a piece of cake. The replacement of the existing knob took about 15 minutes, and re-keying takes about 30 seconds. Will definitely continue to use Kwikset products.
