Review the Wiring Diagram Carefully
It took me so many tries to get this switch installed and working properly as a 3-way switch, and most of that was my missing that a change needed to be made in the box where I wasn't installing this. I finally dug up a different wiring diagram on the Leviton website that more clearly illustrated that I needed to tie together a couple of lines in the upstream box in order to provide the constant power to the downstream location that this switch needs. Once I got the wires right, however, it works like a charm, and I no longer have to run down to the basement to turn off the lights that my kid left on before going to bed who knows how many hours before. The only other slightly confusing bit, that is also not well explained in the instructions, is that the other (basic) switch now needs to be toggled twice to turn the lights off, but still only once to turn them on. I printed a small explanatory label sticker to put on the basic switch for visitors. In short, the switch works great, I'm dinging it a star for unclear instructions.

NOT AUTO-ON and won’t work if ambient light is sufficient
NOT AUTO-ON switch and won’t work if ambient light is sufficient. This works like a dusk to dawn light switch… meaning not for someone who needs more light to see. Detects vacancy only to turn off a light forgotten… left on. Will not turn on the light. You have to turn it on manually. Look for Occupancy Switch I’d you want it to turn the lights on automatically and then off when no motion is detected.

Only works as LAST switch on 3 way
The switch is not universal like most three-way switches and only works on the last three-way before the lights.

Simple installation, saves energy
This is a vacancy switch which means it is manually turned on, you can turn it off manually or the switch will turn itself off after a programmable number of minutes with no people in the room. (In contrast, an occupancy switch both turns on automatically when it detects motion and turns off after an absence of motion). I have come to prefer electrical products from Leviton and recommend this vacancy switch.
