American-made and available in a complete assortment of styles and sizes, Mayhew has the rugged punches your particular application calls for. Manufactured to ASME B107.410 specifications. Used for piercing, or marking for starting drills, in metal and other materials. Point sizes vary for larger or smaller holes. If you want to scribe lines in metal, consider a prick punch. I purchased this 4 piece punch set to use for gun smithing work, particularly staking the castle nut on M4 carbines and also staking the screws for the gas keys on the bolt carrier groups. After locking the rifle in a padded vice, I tightened the castle nut then used the 2nd to the smallest punch in the set with a small hammer to lock down the castle nut and tapped the BCG that I also placed in a padded vice. Easy work, just take your time and use good lighting. Saved me alot of $ since I was about to buy a Brownells gas key staking tool for $75.00 + and now I'm good to go..... The punches appear to have no wear after 6 rifles.

Used them on soft aluminum and hard cast iron.

Nice selection and point angles. Be smart and don't blame the center punch if it gets distorted marking hard metals. Instead, lighten your hammer and take a few strikes.

I recommend this set

Works fine for my needs. Holds their point well, though I have only used the smaller three Center Point Punches the assumption is the larger ones would also.

Mayhew Quality

Very good quality, very impressed with Mayhew USA tools. Been caught out with their Taiwan offerings (cheaper, but not as good IMO). Used on stainless and mild steel, and no problems. Pouch is a little flimsy, but that the tools are top notch
