Not bad!
They make good budget knives, so I hoped for the same here and got it. The grits seem reasonably accurate, and the stone seems generally solid and well-made. I'm in the learning stages with freehand sharpening, and don't want to make all my mistakes on my best stones, so this is a good starter IMHO. There are a lot of cheapie no-name stones out there, but I figured Mercer had a reputation to protect and I think it mattered. It's a jungle out there and I doubt you'll find a stone worth owning that's cheaper. : )

Solved my problems
I had a handheld sharpener that chewed up my knife blades, but this is sorting them out very well. Works exactly as I'd expect it. Might have to get one more block of a finer grit, but we'll see how the knives perform with just these two grits for now. Takes about 10-15 minutes per knife to get all the horrifying notches smoothed out.

Descent stone to get descentdecent edge
This stone is quite durable. 400 side is good, but 1000 side is not fine enough. If you need razor sharp knife, try something more than this. This one wont give you a mirror like edge.

Worth every penny
Bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas this year and he absolutely loves this product. He sharpens his knife weekly just so he can use it!

Cooks will love this!
Excellent quality, with good grit choices if you use your knives a lot. Very little effort to bring a 'hopeless' old favorite knife back to life! The 'holding tray' is non-slip and a real nice feature, and the water-use means FAR less mess than oil-soaked stones.

Quickly becomes useless and clogged
I have used this stone three times to sharpen a knife and now the 400 grit side feels identical to the 1000. The stone doesn't produce a slurry like my King 1200 stone does and apparently it's just going to get more and more polished until it's useless. Needless to say I'm pretty disappointed that I figured this out shortly after the return period, so now I'm stuck with it. I soaked the stone for an hour before each use and kept it wet during use, and under the same conditions my King stone performs well, so I don't believe this is a case of user error.

Excelente compra.
De las mejores compras que he realizado. La utilizo para afilar las cuchillas de mis cepillos. El resultado es inmejorable, debido a la calidad del grano y a lo plano de la piedra.
