Not too bad...

As a Canadian finding a nice looking heavy duty gate latch isn't too easy. I watched the wood fence expert and the way he constructs his gates is very impressive. He recommends this latch for his installs and they look so nice. You can barely see them head on and the inside outside access without a janky wire is essential. The install is super easy. I actually mortised mine into place because it looks so much nicer that way as well as giving it some added support for when the gate closes. My main problem with this item is that I wouldn't really classify it as heavy duty. My gate actually snapped the latch pin. Granted, it's a 7' gate and isn't a standard wood gate but I was a little upset. I actually had to go out and buy a fatter latch pin which wasn't easy or cheap and had to modify the actual latch to accept the new much bigger pin. A little work with the file and it fit like new minus the paint. Make the latch pin a little beefier. Stainless Steel option Why isn't this available in Canada!?

Latch doesn't fit

The entire mechanism seems fairly rugged which I like. However, the bolt is too large for the latch. Possibly the coating to too thick but it will not latch on it's own ever. The latching mechanism by itself doesn't move smoothly without a bolt, but the primary issue is the bolt does not fit. I have another smaller bolt I can use but it is disappointing.

The product description indicates the latch is 1 x 5 x 2 inches, it's actually 10 inches. Returning.

Bought 2 of these for my new fence to latch ...

Bought 2 of these for my new fence to latch the gate but be able to open from either side. This works well and closes very smooth. Seems to be a strong product and I anticipate that it will last for years to come.

Solidly built gate latch

This latch is well built and extremely durable. I like it so much I’ve bought 3 of them.
