Solid Brass Option that looks great and is very functional. Top Quality
I really love this all brass hose mender. It is fairly difficult to install. It really looks fantastic! Cutting the hose strait was easy. It took a bit of work to get the cuff part on the hose (I call it the raspy cylinder) . Make certain it is on just equal to the newly cut hose end. I used a clamping crescent wrench to lock onto the nut portion of the threaded male end (what will be the end of the hose). I used a triple folded paper towel to protect the round raspy cylinder portion on the hose. I used a sizable Channel Lock Pliers to grab tightly to this raspy cylinder portion. [I might use some layers of blue tape on the channel lock pliers directly to protect the brass raspy cylinder in the future] Unfortunately, the channel locks slipped twice and scratched the raspy part. Boo. Anyhow I used the locking crescent wrench to hold the hose male threaded end with the nut part. With the Channel Locks I gradually turned the raspy cylinder end clockwise and turned it onto the the threaded male end to within about less than 1/8" gap between the 2 parts. One might be able to get the two ends closer, but aesthetically this less than 1/8" looks pretty nice. What I Like: 1. Works like a charm. 2. Nice and compact. 3. Looks great (despite my damage by slipping with the channel locks) The brass is a definite improvement over the aluminum that was on the hose originally. Everything fits nicely and snugly with no leaking. I use all-brass accessories for the most part so they tend to be high quality products that don't leak and don't fuse together if I leave them there via the Galvanic Corrosion process. I highly recommend this product and will be buying more of these when the need arises. Best one I have used in my life.

Very well done product.
Simple and does the job perfectly. Sturdy and no leaks. A vice or similar tool to help with the installation is recommended.

Sturdy, no leaks, and sleek. Definitely use a heat gun to soften your hose.
Very good product but installation on a medium duty 5/8” hose can be challenging without some tips. Following the advice of another reviewer, I gently warmed the hose ends with a heat gun to soften the rubber/plastic. This made it much easier to slide collar over the outside of the hose and slide the internal Barb inside the hose. Following that other reviewer’s advice as well, screw the female hose coupling on to your hose bib and tighten it down. This way the internal Barb will not rotate when you use pliers to rotate and thread the collar onto the fitting

Ultimate Hose Mender.....If You Can Install
Once installed, this is a great product. All quality brass construction, small footprint, and mends hose to OEM specifications at a reasonable price. This downfall of this product is the installation. Because of slight deviations in the size of hoses ( ID. and O.D ) due to manufacturing, age, and temp make the installation a challenge which most consumers won't accept. Biggest problem for me was getting hose started into the fitting, With a small precision screwdriver I tucked edge of squared cut, supple hose ( warmed with hair dryer ) into the brass fitting ( make sure to lube end of hose and fitting with dish soap ) . Once started, I used Channelocks to turn knurled fitting while forcing hose into fitting. ( first one 45 minutes, second one 5 minutes ) So obviously this product is poorly engineered with its small window of installation success. To me a chamfer or flare on this fitting would help tremendously with installation of this fitting ( Instead of tapering hose, taper fitting on both I.D'S ) Anyway, this would be a Great Product if they could improve installation, till then, most people will opt for bulky, weak plastic adapters...........Mh

Fit perfectly on 0.83" O.D. rubber hose
The Orbit 56802N female hose repair end installed easily in less than ten minutes on my garden hose and doesn't leak a drop! I gave it five stars. My 5/8" I.D. hose has an outside diameter of approximately 0.83" measured with my dial caliper. The hose was a little difficult to measure since it was oval from being wound on a hose reel. I was getting larger and slightly smaller measurements, but the hose O.D. seemed to be closest to the 0.83" measurement when I had the hose straight and found a round section. I didn't have to heat the hose, or grind on anything to install the Orbit kit. The Knurled internally threaded collar fit snugly over the hose, and I was able to push it on without any trouble. The barbed end connector pushed easily into the 5/8" I.D., but I did wipe a little dish detergent and water in the hose I.D. and on the barbs to make it go on a little easier. I then wrapped the outside of knurled brass collar with about six layers of electrical tape (to protect the knurls from getting marred) then screwed the two brass pieces together with Channellock pliers. This was easily accomplished by just holding onto the rubber hose tightly with one hand, while turning the knurled collar on with the other with the Channellock pliers. I then peeled off the electrical tape off of the knurls, and they were perfect! The connector has a factory appearance, is nice and tight and leak free. If your hose has a larger O.D. than mine, you may have some difficulty with it fitting as others have mentioned, but it worked great for my hose, and I couldn't be happier with it. Make sure that you measure your hose O.D. first where it is straight and perfectly round to get an ACCURATE measurement to make sure that the Orbit kit will work for you.
