This is not truely wireless, as the transmitter box needs to be outside the grill or oven. If you want a truely wireless solution so you can close the lid, look elsewhere. Whole thing feels cheap. They dont even ship with any offbrand AAA batteries to get you going.

Hubby is pleased with this. Now he can stop "misplacing" MY food thermometer. ???? He's a chef so a proper temp is important when grilling. Readings were accurate.

accurate and wireless works seemless
product review: Outset 76637 Digital Wireless Thermometer, Black This wireless thermometer is actually good value at the price point, at the time of writing it is around 19 bucks. It comes with two probes that can measure temperature and transfer wireless to the receiver. I have tested the lower limit by placing it in my freezer and there was no issue transmitting signal even from a chest freezer. Though description simply state continuous measurement, it transmits signal every 30 sec or temperature change by 1 degree. Both devices got magnets on the back to place them conveniently on grill or any magnetic surface. Also, they can be placed on non magnetic surfaces using the stand or the hanger as seen in the picture attached.

They took a simple device, an instant read thermometer, and made it complicated. Why?
I love digital instant read thermometers, but I really, really detest this one. My bread baking skills have improved ten-fold since I started using a thermometer to measure for doneness. It is no longer a guessing game. That is especially important because I am constantly trying new recipes. Bread – 200 to 210 degrees F. (Easy) The same with meat. I no longer overcook chicken, and I no longer undercook beef. Food no longer gets wasted by guessing and experiments. The savings along have paid for the thermometers many times over. To start with this thermometer, you are going to need 4 AAA batteries. They do not come with it. It arrives preprogrammed for meat. Now, if you like your meat cooked until it is tough and dry, you might like this thermometer. The beef is programmed to alert you at 170 degrees F. That is for very well-done beef. I set mine for beef at 140 to 145 degrees F. depending on the cut. If you can customize the settings, the directions have omitted those steps. You are stuck with only the presets. Yuck! That means I can never use this thermometer for bread. I can never use it for beef. If you lose the directions in the future, you are going to be out of luck. Using this is complicated. Wireless – Their definition of wireless and mine are not even in the same ballpark. If I have a probe with a wire on it sticking out of my oven or BBQ grill, I do not consider the thermometer “wireless”. Wireless in this case means that they made it more complicated by having the probe box and the receiver as two separate gadgets instead of one. Now you need “wireless” communication so that they can talk to each other. As far as I am concerned, that just makes for one more gadget where something can go wrong. If you do not buy this one, and please don’t, I urge you to at least buy a different thermometer. They will save you lots of time and money in the kitchen. Buy a simple, uncomplicated thermometer that lets you customize the settings. Stay away from thermometers that have “presets”.
