It can be argued that one of the crowning achievements of the Modern Age was bringing light from the darkness. However, that celebration was so the Industrial Revolution. Nowadays, we have 'robots' to perform our illuminating demands, and as cyclists, we now have the Portland Design Works Fenderbot Tail Light. Virtually theft-proof and impossible to miss on the road, the Fenderbot will keep you safe on your commute. Portland Design Works' Fenderbot Tail Light lives up to the image that its name conjures. Like a sentient, robotic bodyguard against inattentive drivers, the Fenderbot bolts to your commuter to grant safe passage through the night. At the heart of the system is a blindingly, strong red LED and a built-in precision reflector. The reflector jams a death-ray sized beam of pure light out to the eyes of distracted drivers, and even better, it meets the EU standards of visibility (seen over 500 feet away). The LED operates on one steady setting, and is powered by two AAA batteries. The Fenderbot attaches to your fender via a two-bolt system. And while your fender most likely doesn't have two ideally placed holes that are exactly 20mm apart, PDW incorporated this attachment design to eliminate theft. They recommend getting your 'DIY' on and drilling two 5mm holes at a 20mm distance between them. After this, it's smooth sailing for a lifetime of illumination. The Portland Design Works Fenderbot Tail Light is available in a 53x38x78mm size. The light also includes two AAA batteries, and weighs in around 62g.

Runs on 2xAAA batteries (included). Weight: 62 g (2.2 oz). Weatherproof exterior for all season riding. Bright red LED and precision reflector. Bolts onto most full coverage bicycle fenders. Fender-mounted bicycle tail light.

There is much to be learned from the Germans
PDW had the opportunity to give some of these German light makers a run for the their money. Unfortunately the entire design is a pretty big flop. B&M Secula (dynamo only right now) is a great example of what is possible for high visibility with a fresnel lens that is neither blinding nor invisible like this light. The single LED light source with minimal lens has been proven time & time again to be a poor indicator of distance for road users behind you. Some manufactures try to pour more juice into the LED to make it brighter but that just exacerbates the issue and blinds other users making them unable to judge distance and location and distracting them from other obstacles on the road. In the case of the Fenderbot they didn't even bother to use a modern high efficiency LED and circuitry, this thing blows through the battery without much to show for it. I appreciate the price, nice looking light and the fact that they even bothered acknowledging those with fendered bicycles and good taste in visual design. There is still a chance to redeem yourself PDW, I believe in you & American made products! Hire some crafty engineers that can reverse engineer all of the advancements in fresnel tail lighting coming out of Germany right now. The bicycle nerds will embrace you and we can end this silly high powered, blinding tailight arms race happening in the cycling world and welcome in a revolution of highly visible and efficient tail lights.

Great Product
This did the trick. Instead of the simple fender reflector I now have a taillight on the bike AND a reflector. Great product and replaces the standard reflector very simply.

Reasonably priced for what it is
As others stated, it is hard to find a fender mount tail light. The reflector is a nice touch. Install is easy enough for a reasonably handy person with a drill. I had to remove the rear wheel for the install, which was slightly more tedious on my non-quick release wheel. I wanted a fender mount light so that I would have one less thing to strip from the bike when locking it up in public places. As far as light intensity, it is as other say, but acceptable for my non-commuting needs.

Nice look and great for city commuting
I really like the design and look of this taillight. I have a mixte and it looks great! The reflector is a nice touch. This is a great taillight for city roads and bike paths. (I live in Seattle.) It is bright enough so that a car on a city street can see you (driving ~30 mph with street lights). It is also bright enough so a cyclist on a public bike path can see you but not be blinded by it. I would not recommend this taillight for suburban and rural roads.

Perfect replacement for broken reflector on mudguard of my bike
Perfect replacement for broken reflector on mudguard of my bike. 2 minutes to fit in existing holes and with a good light that cannot be stolen easily. So simple that I bought another one for another bike. Just what was needed to ensure that I always have a rear light with me.

Great as a get you home light in case the main as failed. Still you wont know the main has failed until someone rear-ends you.

Pretty weak light
The light is pretty dim and doesn't really do much for you. As a tail light I expected it to be a lot brighter and light up the reflector. I would consider this more of a fender reflector that happens to have a light on it.
